Horrible Dine-in experience.
Arrived and was not greeted so much, as gestured to find a seat, which we did.
We were provided menus only (no water, silverware, plates) and then left to peruse for about 10 minutes before the hostess/waitress came to take our order.
Food arrived in two batches with a missing item and we had to wait several minutes for the hostess/waitress to re-appear from the back to request that item.
To the restaurants credit the food was good. Though dishes were small for the price. I'd estimate about a cup of cooked rice and an 8oz entrée portion for each of our groups entrees at $15 each. Total bill for 4 was $90 after we added Naan and a few soft drinks.
The service was below standard and unlike anything I've ever experienced. We were never checked on. Never offered a refresh of our soft drinks/water. When the bill was brought we asked for to go boxes and were given three. When we asked for two others the waitress/hostess just stared at us. Then pointed to the ones she had dropped off. I politely but firmly indicated that we still would need two additional boxes and was greeted with a very unhappy glare.
As we boxed our food the waitress/hostess returned with a large dish tub, that she proceeded to set on the end of our table and then reach out piece by piece for us to hand her all of our dishes/glasses/silverware. Keep in mind we were still visiting, chatting and boxing our food at this point.
Never in my life have I experienced service this poor. If the restaurant is having issues with staffing and would rather only do carryout, I would fully support this change in their business model, rather than to act as if the two tables of dine-in customers you have during a 90 minute lunch are an inconvenience and a bother.
I would not recommend dining in at this establishment to anyone and honestly for the price charged vs what you get in terms of serving size/quantity of food I wouldn't recommend it for...
Read moreMy wife and daughter recently visited Kanak India restaurant. We had eaten there once before and really enjoyed the food. This time, she had an Entertainment Book coupon for 25% the total bill. They both ate and enjoyed their meals and even bought a third meal to carryout. The decision to eat at this restaurant (and certainly to buy a third meal) was predicated on the assumption they would honor the discount they published in the Entertainment book. After the meal, my wife presented her payment along with the coupon. After a very lengthy absence, my wife hunted down the waitress to find out what was going on. The waitress informed her would not honor the discount. My wife asked to speak with the manager and the waitress told her there was no manager on duty but she had talked to him/her on the phone. She also said there was a sign out front that explained they do not honor the Entertainment Book coupons. My wife went out front to check and there WAS NO SIGN. She told the waitress there was not a sign and the waitress rudely argued that there was. My wife said, “Show me” and they both went together to look and indeed THERE WAS NO SIGN. The rude waitress did not resign her position upon confirmation she was wrong. My wife again asked to speak with a manager and was refused. She was forced to pay full price for a meal she would not have ordered had she known the restaurant would not honor a coupon they published. They lied about the sign on the door and showed extreme cowardice in refusing let her talk to a manager knowing they were wrong. While we enjoy the food, we will never again visit this establishment given my wife’s treatment. We will not give another dime to these thieves, cowards and liars. There are many Indian restaurants in the area and we will only do business with...
Read moreTLDR: Serving smaller proportions for same high price, changed chicken in Masala and it sucks now. Soup is only half a small bowl and not worth 6.99.
So I am reviewing this with a heavy heart now.
I adore this place and it was worth the expense costing 45+ everytime we get a meal for me and my partner.
But not anymore.
They changed the proportion sizes to smaller containers and that reduced the amount of masala that came with the "Chicken Tikka Masala".
My soup also came as a half serving at 6.99 when it used to be a full bowl and is now not even half.
I think they may have either ran out of containers or are wanting to reduce the amount provided.
But they are still charging the high prices for less quantity now.
I am also upset to say they changed the way they cook the actual Chicken Tikka Masala and I would say it tastes horrible now. You used to get solid chicken chunks, they switched to shredded chicken. Unfortunately when you shred chicken and it cooks for a long time it's dry, hard to chew, and doesn't simmer and collect flavor.
I will never buy it again as long as they used shredded chicken. It really is a disservice to the dish.
I wish they had warned me of all of these changes before spending the 50 dollars this time. I should've been told of smaller containers and the shred chicken just sucks at this point.
I guess I will have to call in and ask about the details before putting an order in now. I hope they go back to the original chicken used and original preparation of it.
I do not recommend buying the chicken Tikka masala anymore, they are charging too much for the poor quality of it and the smaller size. The 6.99 soups are not worth it for less than half of a normal soup bowl. For 6.99 I expected...
