I wish I had any positives to my experience here yesterday, but I do not. Me and my friends had been planning for a week to come to Toast & Berry for breakfast. We were all quite excited to try it out. One lady from our group called the restaurant a day or two prior to our visit to see if we could get a reservation for 10. They said they didn’t do reservations, which is no big deal, we weren’t really sure they would. So we decided to arrive a little earlier than originally planned to hopefully be able to be seated together. Upon arrival, two ladies in our group were told our group of 10 would be split to two different tables. Again, no big deal. We figured we’d be close enough to each other that it would all work out. After waiting for a few minutes, they told us we could be seated since 5 of us were there. We were lead to a table that could seat 8, but was only set for 6. We sat at it and evaluated how we truly could fit 10 people at it if we squeezed, and we didn’t mind squeezing in altogether. Our waitress was there to take drinks as we discussed it, and she told us that she thought that would work just fine. While ordering drinks, we began arranging ourselves to fit all 10 at the table, when the woman that I’m presuming was the manager (?) quickly came over and told us we could not do that. We asked her why and she said it’s their policy that only 8 sit together. She then pointed to a booth, against the opposite wall of the restaurant, and said 4 of us could sit there. At this point, we all had puzzled looks on our faces. We wanted to all 10 eat at least near each other. The manager had walked away and we debated on if we would stay. As this is happening, a woman at a booth, right by our table for 6, said she was leaving and we could have her booth. We thought this was perfect and 4 of us could sit right there. As the manager sees this is happening, she aggressively comes over to us and refers to us as “girls” (I haven’t been spoken to like that since elementary school) and very condescendingly told us we had to sit at the far away table. Once again, we asked why, and the manager told us that they “want to discourage big groups from coming to eat here.” At this point, we decided we didn’t want to give them our money anyway, so we left. This was one of the most bizarre experiences I’ve had. I felt bad for our waitress who was so kind and wanted to accommodate us. I wish I knew her name, but I appreciated her kindness. She also seemed frustrated with the situation at hand. Policies are policies, but I wish more than just the 1 woman had seemed to know about the policy. The woman on the phone should’ve been the first to inform us, then we could’ve never walked in the door. My biggest frustration is with how we were treated. I did not get the woman’s name, but she was so unkind to us, even when we had been more than willing to try to work with this policy. But being seated intentionally across the restaurant from each other, when there were 2 tables open right by each other? That’s just silly. I, personally, will not be returning to Toast & Berry, but I would urge you all to make this policy quite clear on all your sites, to save another group from...
Read moreToast & Berry is a new restaurant in a newly built building in Montgomery. The restaurant has a modern, simple decor and many windows, making it airy and bright. As I walked in, it was confusing where to go. The coffee bar is right at the entrance, but the hostess table is to the left, past the people waiting. No one directed us where to go (the barista just looked at us), which was confusing.
As I was waiting for the hostess to greet my brothers and me, I saw someone I know and asked him how it was. He said "It was okay. It's new at least." This quick conversation really did sum up the brunch, or I suppose I should call it lunch, due to the small portions.
There was a short wait, so we sat at the bar. The bartender was super nice and provided good service. We ordered the Berries & Crème French Toast, The Veggie Jackson as a bowl (there is a choice to have omelettes prepared as a bowl) with breakfast potatoes, and the Berry Quinoa Bowl. The wait for the food was normal.
When the food came out, the first thing we noticed was the small size of the bowls and plates. While the prices may be cheaper than a local competitor like the Sleepy Bee, the portion size was significantly smaller. Compared to the chain First Watch, the prices were similar, but the portion size was much smaller.
The Berries & Crème French Toast was rather hard for french toast and tasted good, but was definitely nothing special. The Veggie Jackson as a bowl just seemed disorganized. I could barely tell if there were eggs in it. The Berry Quinoa Bowl had plenty of berries but there was no harmony between them and the quinoa.
Overall, It was a pleasant lunch, and it was fun to try out somewhere new. But, I was...
Read moreThis is a great place with excellent food, great presentation, and quality ingredients. I had their eggs Benedict and a side English muffin with strawberry preserves. As the same muffin is used for the eggs Benedict I will say it is a quality muffin that came out split warm and buttered inside with the strawberry preserves soft and delicious. The eggs Benedict was wonderful as it has cubed hashbrowns that are both dense and moist, but moist inside not greasy with a crisp outside reminiscent of a home fried potatoes exterior. Delicious Then there is a mini fruit cup The eggs Benedict themselves start with a base of that excellent muffin then a ham that is perfect for this application... then you have a nice hollandaise and attop it is a perfectly poached egg; that when split flows nicely over the entrée. I would recommend a side of their toast to sop in the egg as the tost is very nice and tasted excellent. The mushroom and Jack cheese Omelet is a beautiful example of an Omelet as the ingredients are not just in the Omelet but present In a way that they don't seem over cooked into the egg. It's almost like they were able to make sure they all stood out and you could taste them unlike other omelets where they can be bland ingredients. It shows they know when to add the ingredients to the egg properly so you can get the flavors that contrast in texture but compliments the others flavor... came with that wonderful toast and the hashbrown cubes; it also came with that mini fruit cup. This was a...
