I thought I would share my experience from the Old Montgomery Steakhouse. Although I was hesitant to eat here due to the way the owner treated the hotdog kid, it was a convenient place for dinner to attend our Lamplight Ghost Tour of Montgomery. We were a party of 10, mind you I made reservations a week ahead. We arrive at 5:15pm and the place was empty. There were two unfriendly hosts/servers waiting near the door. They had no idea about the party of 10, but quickly put some tables together for us. The woman server was not friendly at all. We tried to make light and have a good evening, getting her to crack a smile once or twice. Service was poor, but food was good. Upon leaving we all decided to walk over to H-Wines where our tour began, 7pm. After the tour we walked over to Bar and Vines to finish our evening with good company. At 11:00pm we walk back to our cars and my son notices his car was GONE. He parked facing the north building, red building with sidingâŚI think. He parked facing a business front with a wooden hanging sign, âLush Bodyworxâ. Anyhow, we called the police thinking his car had been stolen. Come to find out, the OWNER of the restaurant reported the car abandoned, and had it towed to Conroe. 45 minutes each way, plus $350 to get the car back. The police showed up and said it was not well marked, but there are signs stating Old Montgomery Steakhouse Customer Parking. We were paying customers. Our dinner was well over $300. There is not a time limit on the sign, nor did anyone see the signs, AND there was not a sign near where my son entered the lot or where his car was parked. We are good upstanding citizens, and would have never broken the law on purpose. We do not believe that we are exempt, nor would we ever want to take a parking spot of a future customer at a local business. Needless to say, the parking lot is not always busy, especially at 11 PM. The next day we did speak to the owner and he didnât want anything to do with us. He said it is his right to have cars towed. He also told the tow truck company that we were customers at his restaurant earlier in the day, so he knew the car wasnât abandoned. Iâm not one to make negative reviews, but I hope you take this into consideration when you think of eating and supporting this local family in their restaurant endeavors. This is not the way you do business, nor is it the way you handle business when confronted. The owner never apologized, never offered to help with the compensation of getting his car back, or even try to make it right. As for my family, we will never spend another dime in...
Read moreI'd like to give 1 star due to completely incompetent management, but I'll give 2 because the service staff redeemed my experience.
They give you syrup for your food in basically a low-quality condiment bottle that's intended for like ketchup and mustard. Clearly, the manager that made this absolutely asinine decision has absolutely zero comprehension of liquid viscosity. Something one typically learns in, what, 3rd grade? So as you can imagine, trying to carefully squeeze a thick liquid through a fine tip, can lead to disaster.
Sure enough, the cap flies off and I end up drenched in an entire bottle of syrup. To add insult to injury, I'm visiting from out of state and we were grabbing a bite before heading to the airport. Now I have pants full of syrup, and I need to sit in a rental car and later on a plane for 3 hours.
Now I get it, accidents happen. And I usually wouldn't make a stink about it. But here's the kicker. The staff proceeds to tell me that this happens ALL THE TIME but the owner is too cheap to change the bottles or do anything about it. So this issue I'm now dealing with for the rest of an already stressful day has been made exponentially worse due to pure dimwitted negligence from a cheap restaurant owner.
The servers are sure to tell me they hope it doesn't happen next time. There won't be a next time. I don't care if your food and atmosphere is good if you're too cheap to care about setting up your customers to get drenched in syrup.
Be better Montgomery Steakhouse. And to the workers there, if this is how your owner treats his customers I can't imagine how he's treating you. Should probably consider employment elsewhere so you don't have to spend a chunk of your day cleaning syrup off your customers.
And if it hasn't been made clear enough. Owner of the restaurant, you are absolutely dim. A dim, short-sighted, chuckleheaded halfwit that should finish...
Read moreSo very friendly with a homey atmosphere.Great food with healthy portions. No one will leave hungry thats for sure. When we were there today, sunday Aug. 9th 2020, we were just coming back from hiking and I went online and noticed that they closed at 3pm. It was currently 2pm. I called and asked what time they closed to confirm what was stated online and the very sweet young lady who answered the phone confirmed it their closing was infact 3pm. I shared that we have a group of 7 people and that we can come another time as it was nearing closing time. We just wanted to be considerate of all who were working and to not keep them later than needed. She said it wasnt a problrm at all and that if we got there by 2:30 they would be happy to still serve us. We were so glad to hear that. We got there about 15 min or so from the time I had called and they were already set up for us- table ready and all. :) Hows that for service?! :) We ordered and didnt have to wait long at all for our meals. They were delicious and never did we feel rushed. My husband had to walking out to get something from the car and he witnessed the owner speaking to a homeless man and invited him in to have something to eat. We all witnessed him giving him a place to sit and a menu, he ordered and the owner sat with him and talked with him while he received his food. This made us smile as he showed compassion for another human being and wasnt doing it in a way where he was wanting to be noticed for what he was doing. It was so refreshing to see especially since there has been so much division. This made us just love this restaurant even more. We will be returning everytime we are in the area, thats...
