I stopped by Parrilla Loca for lunch one day since it was close to my job, and I was genuinely surprised by how good the food was.
Being originally from Southern California, I’m convinced that we have the best Mexican food outside of Mexico. Over the years, I’ve tried Mexican food from a fair share of places—Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Alabama—and outside of California (and a few spots in Arizona), I’ve consistently been let down. But this place? Actually pretty solid.
Chips, Salsa & Guacamole
The first thing I judge at any Mexican restaurant is their chips and salsa, and I have to say, they nailed it. The salsa was immaculate, and as a self-proclaimed sauce snob, that’s saying something. The guacamole was also phenomenal—another area where I have high standards. I hate when I have to ask for limes to balance the flavors in my guac, but here, I didn’t have to. It was perfectly seasoned and lined to perfection—no extra effort needed on my part.
The Burrito
Since I wasn’t sure what to order, I went with a super burrito loaded with chicken, steak, and shrimp—and it was exactly what it sounded like: huge and packed with flavor.
One thing I’ve noticed about a lot of Mexican food, even in authentic spots, is that many places don’t season their meat because they rely on the sauces to bring the flavor. But this place actually seasoned their steak, chicken, and shrimp instead of just depending on the toppings and salsa to do the heavy lifting. That made a huge difference and elevated the whole dish.
Final Verdict
Overall, I was thoroughly impressed. The food was fresh, well-seasoned, and balanced, and they clearly put thought into even the smallest details. For someone as picky about Mexican food as I am, this place exceeded my expectations.
10/10—would definitely recommend. If you’re looking for legit, well-seasoned Mexican food, this...
Read moreUpdated 9/23/23 - According to Google, it’s been 11 months since our first review. I’m happy to report that the service, food, and restaurant are STILL awesome. Incredibly fast and friendly kitchen and staff. Generous portion sizes. They make the guacamole and bananas foster at the table. We highly recommend this place. Bonus: for anyone eating with kids, there’s a changing table in the roomy one-stall restroom. Plus, the employees seem to really enjoy having families in the restaurant and encourage kids to eat their food.
Original post: Our family visited for an early dinner on Friday night. We were passing through the area and arrived before the restaurant was busy, and we chose this restaurant because it had received so many favorable reviews. Now we know why. The restaurant was well-lit and immaculate, the owners and servers were friendly and hospitable, and the food was great. I would strongly recommend Parrilla Loca. The folks work hard and provide excellent service. I hope to...
Read moreHidden gem. Just when u thought, "there's no way I'm finding decent Mexican food in Alabama". Here it is.
The good: the guac, the taco(i dont know how they get their taco meat soooo small, the flavor is thru n thru), the cheese enchilada. Ask them for the hotter sauce if u like that cause the regular sauce is really weak. Pace is hotter. I like the chile relleno the cheese was super runny so let it sit a few minutes to hopefully set. It had a very good flavor just the runniness sux.
