Darrell's A Family Tradition — Restaurant in Monticello

My Sweetie and I stopped for a pre-model show breakfast at Darrell's for our first time. We LOVE local cafe's and shy away from national chains whenever possible. A local gentleman advised the newcomers "Sit wherever you want" as he made his way outside with an obviously happy tummy! There is a compact breakfast buffet or one can order off the menu.

We chose a booth. Our waitress arrived in almost no time. I ordered country fried steak, eggs, American fried potatoes and toast with coffee. My "Date" had a meat lovers omelet with cinnamon raisin toast and chocolate milk. Our orders arrived after not too much time. Hot, near prefect and plentiful! Any thought that anyone ever leave Darrell's hungry quickly vanished! Their coffee is good too!

Our breakfast was just what hungry hobby hahnyaaks wish for. The price was reasonable and the small town Monticello atmosphere was a delight. Access from Hwy 151 isn't too far off the road.

Darrell's defeated me. I made a valiant effort, but I couldn't finish all of my delicious breakfast. They advertise "Tummy Happiness". It's the plain truth!

I've actually been there several times over the years, and I can honestly say I wish I lived closer & passed through more often. Great food & friendly service, easy to get to ( not far off the main highway 151 ). I'm not sure what day it was when I came through the last time, but the chicken on the buffet table was absolutely, hands down, the best fried chicken I have had in 30÷ years since my mother passed away..!! And I put my mother's fried on a very high pedestal & didn't this I would ever have any that compaired...but I have found it.!! ♡♡♡ So if you find yourself in Jones County Iowa and a hunger for great food, don't hesitate, get to Monticello & have some excellent food & enjoy...i know I will be there again soon, and I'm hoping the buffet tables are filled with all the excellent dishes & especially that superb fried chicken that was hands down the best I've had in...

Ate breakfast yesterday morning at Darrells. The food was absolutely terrible. There were egg shells in my omelet and my husband and sister ordered rib eye steak and eggs. They requested it rare and it was cooked well done and the meat was rubbery and tough. We told an older lady about the food, who was very RUDE to us and she said there was nothing she could do since we had already started eating the food, even though i didnt find the egg shell until i was half way thru the omlet and she would take nothing off our bill.
