El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Monticello

I thought if I even wanted to post my experience online but I feel as if my experience was unacceptable. Me and my family went to el tapatio because of all the good reviews it had. The food was mediocre. And the price I cannot recall but what was absolutely disgusting was the staff. My mother speaks little English to start. But we all speak fluent English and Spanish. She asked for the restroom in Spanish. And the girls just stared at her. She then pointed my mom which was fine. But she started mocking her in English. Saying “don’t speak to me in spanish” while the other girl laughed. I bit my tongue. Because I was raised to not bring myself to other people’s level.

The waitress came and said “ what do you want.” And continued to be rude the entire meal. She slammed pushed our dishes into us. And then came to drop off the tortillas. Throwing them on the table. And saying “ here’s the shells or tortillas or whatever you call them.” As this point we left a smaller tip and walked out the door but as we all walked by the 3 girls were all looking at us and laughing staring at my family as I walked out the door. I wanna think they were laughing at something else but the way they treated my family I highly doubt it.

I feel bad because I heard it is a family run restaurant. But I will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone else. Save your money. And your self esteem. And go to any other food place...

I have been here twice now and both times this place was packed yet my party and I were seated quickly and our drinks and order taken in a very reasonable amount of time. The portion sizes are phenomenal for the price you pay for a lot of their meals. The burrito tapatio is massive, I can only eat half in one sitting. My friend got beef fajitas and the meat was delivered to the table still in a cast iron pan still sizzling with a heat pad around the handle and a wooden tray under it. I only gave it 3 stars for atmosphere because it was really tight squeeze between tables and booths, but that didn't effect the total overall experience. I had the chimichanga shredded chicken no beans extra rice, my bf has the taco salad, my daughter had 3 steak tacos 1 chicken tamale and one pork tamale and a side of rice, her friend had 2 chicken tacos. My bf wasn't totally satisfied with the taco salad, but the rest of us thought it was amazing. Big food portions, cooked perfectly and lots of flavor.
