China Star — Restaurant in Montpelier

One of the worst meals ever. Veg & Shrimp. The shrimp were those tiny canned Shrimp smothered in a tasteless sauce with mushy veggies. Did you ever get canned shrimp in a Chinese meal? They were as tiny as a pinky nail on a baby and rationed like they were gold. It went right in the trash. They owed me ribs because last time I bought there, they had been boiled but had no sauce. This time they were even worse. The owner said they were too expensive and he was losing money. I told him take it off the menu or serve it correctly. That is a problem he needs to solve. So he gave me a free order today. I would not even give them to my dog as they were most likely the poorest quality he could find. No BBQ sauce, just boiled and all fat. No meat at all just that soft white, shimmery fat that can make you vomit. Years ago when this place opened it was great. It must have changed hands. I was living in another State and returned a month ago. This place is not worth it. Save your money. We have some good Asian Restaurants in Montpelier now. Scratch this place from your list. You should never settle for this kind of food when there are many good places to...

If I could give zero stars, I would.

This place was so bad, I’m considering therapy just to process the experience. The crab rangoon? More like crab ran-wrong. It tasted like regret stuffed into a wonton and deep-fried just enough to be offensively soggy. The lo mein? Absolutely drowned in some mysterious sauce that was so overpowering, I’m convinced it was their attempt to cover up the taste of despair.

They gave us this…thing. I think it was supposed to be fried toast, but it felt like someone buttered up a sponge and threw it in the fryer for laughs. The only thing they seemed excited about was handing out extra sauce, almost like they knew it was the only semi-safe thing on the menu.

I will be eternally grateful if I don’t get food poisoning. Avoid at all costs—unless you’re into edible...

I've had good experiences at China Star so far. It's a takeout Chinese food joint and, for takeout, the food is exactly what you'd expect. It's nothing to rave about, but the place is above average compared to similar restaurants for sure. After living in south Texas for three years and having one horrible experience after another at takeout Chinese restaurants it was nice to finally have some decent crab Rangoon. I usually judge takeout Chinese by their General Tso's chicken and egg rolls, and found both of those menu items to be very satisfying. I'll probably call in an order every...
