I visited Artisan's hand a few weeks ago. Missy helped me pick out a ring--she was incredibly patient as I spent a lot of time deciding between options. She even kept a few rings aside for me so I could get some lunch and come back, and kindly polished each of the options I was choosing between even though she knew I was only going to buy one. The selection throughout the store is unmatched. From jewelry to painting, scarves to calendars and everything in between, there are so many different local artisans' work to choose from. Visiting this store made me proud to be from Vermont; it's really special to come from a place that has inspired so many beautiful creations. The store feels deeply rooted in community in the best way. Even though they were lucky enough not to be heavily affected by the flooding this year, they closed and used their time to help their neighbors. That type of care and service speak really highly of the culture at the store. It's a great place to visit whether you're a lifelong Vermonter or just visiting for...
Read moreVermont is long known for farms, crafts, and small town life. Artisan's Hand is a jewel in that crown, making Montpelier a place you want to keep on your leaf peeping, summer or winter itinerary. I lived in Montpelier when it began, a cooperative of artists pooling talents to give customers a concentration of 100 artisan's in one easy place. The concept worked, and it thrives today-over 4 decades later--no wind, sleet or floods could deter it. The curation of clothing and jewelry displayed is eye candy; like entering a museum, but one whose goods you can acquire while supporting independent artists. While no flood could diminish this place or its energy, it was miraculously spared, so need to worry about finding inventory-its all still there--pristine as always, waiting for you to discover. The jewelry, hats, clothing, I have acquired over the years are timeless. A must not miss attraction in your travels to...
Read moreStepping into the Artisans Hand is like visiting a museum with the finest crafts, jewelry, pottery, etc available and in my many visits to other similar stores this is easily one of the best in New England! It is hard to leave this store without indulging in a piece of pottery, some jewelry, a beautiful hand painted scarf, a notebook with a painted design (such that I subsequently ordered several more for gifts for a friend and myself), cards and gifts for many loved ones. Artisans Hand was spared by the recent flood by probably a few inches, so everything there remains intact and unaffected. I hope others will visit Montpelier, particularly after what it has been through and a it's a good idea to make Artisans Hand your first stop! Enjoy and allow plenty of time to explore this beautiful store to consider what treat you will...
