Myself and 6 of my friends went to DelPinos Saturday night January 27th for a birthday celebration. I made the reservation early in the week and was offered 2 time slots 6 or 7.30 so I went for the 6 time slot. We arrived on time and they were a little confused about our reservation as they got the name wrong but sat us right away. We got the menus and were told the specials. We were there a little while before our order was taken but that was ok as we were chatting and drinking out wine. The waiter took our order and the food arrived promptly, it was good and the waiter came back once to check on us.which was fine. They cleared the plates and asked us if we wanted coffee or dessert. A few of us went for cappuccinos which arrived a few minutes later. We were just starting our cappuccinos when the waiter dropped the check and said he needed the table as there were people waiting. They continued to bus the table and the owner stood beside the table with a tray staring at us as we were drinking our coffees and wine. We said that we were not aware of a time limit as it was not mentioned when I made the reservation, I probably would not have made the reservation if I thought we were going to be rushed out , it was 7.50 pm and we were not even there 2 hours and we don’t get together too often. It galled me that they wanted to sell us coffee and dessert even though they needed the table. The owner made no apologies or gave no thanks for our business. We paid the check and left a good tip because it’s not the waiters fault even though he never said thanks or goodbye.all the owner said as we filed out was it’s Saturday night and had to turn the tables. A couple of the ladies brought their glasses of wine to the front as we waited for our rides home. On the way out another waiter had the nerve to chime in that we had to understand as it was a Saturday night. My husband and I are in the restaurant business and would never treat our customers that way. We will...
Read moreI am a self-proclaimed foodie who gets to dine in some of the best restaurants in NYC. I was eager to find a great Italian restaurant in Bergen County, where my family and I live. Delpino, with its understated website and strip-mall location, absolutely over-delivered on my friend's high praise and recommendation. It's the best meal I've had in a long time.
First, the food. We started with the stuffed eggplant appetizer, which was perfectly balanced. The eggplant was not at all watery, and the ricotta and mozzarella balanced in perfect harmony with the fabulous red sauce. The house salad that came with our entrees had a dressing that reminded me of the homemade my Italian mother would make at home. Don't expect anything life-changing, but it was bright and fresh.
We ordered the linguine bolognese as our pasta course. The pasta was special, and the sauce was incredible. For our main, we had the special of the evening, the Veal Chop Valdostano. What a pleasure to have a veal entree that is not overly breaded, greasy, or fried - yes, it had a coating, but it was light and airy, allowing the veal truly to shine.
We closed out our meal with tiramisu, which was iconic. The lady fingers were perfectly infused, and the filling was pillowy and etherial.
Finally, the service was fantastic. They have experienced staff who anticipate needs, check in often, and ensure the meal is nothing but exemplary.
We will absolutely be back - with family and friends. Check it out...
Read moreWe will never go back. The waiter last night was both rude and inept. He read us the specials and then seemed annoyed that we were not ready to order right away. We brought two bottles of wine( a red and a white) and he only opened one of them. He lit all the little candles on the tables around us, but we did not even get one. We had to flag the waiter down to get him to open the other one. He also seemed annoyed by that. We received four (4) avocado appetizers and not the one (1) zucchini appetizer we did order. After that was corrected we never saw the waiter again until the end of the meal, which took a very long time ( close to two hours). Our dinner orders had clearly been forgotten. All four entrees were lukewarm. We couldn’t tell the waiter that because he was nowhere to be seen. We did tell him when he came by to try to sell us some dessert, and his response was a rude “ you should have told me this before “. No apology. He seemed to think that since the restaurant was busy he was not required to be polite. The food was sort of okay, but ruined by the fact that it was not hot. There are plenty of other Italian restaurants in the area. We will never bother with...
