Tavern 73 — Restaurant in Montville Township

This was probably my 4th visit. Shouldn’t have came after the first time as service was extremely poor. I am currently typing this at 3 almost 4am. I am puking and have food poisoning. I ordered a burger and they messed it up not once or twice but 3 times. And guess what? Manager was not in sight nor suggested to come by. I don’t know what happened. I just wanted a simple explanation as to what happened or for somebody to take some type of accountability. The server huff and puffed every time and walked away and was not in sight until the food was brought out. Of course halfway through my burger I noticed it was raw at that point I didn’t even want to send it back AGAIN. The first time it was overcooked and the last time was raw and honestly felt out of spite. Don’t know who’s running this - but you guys need to seriously step it up. The inconsistency is honestly concerning and frustrating that you can’t get a simple burger right that you guys want to charge $20+ for. Server took off our app off the bill when my partner and I honestly shouldn’t have even paid for the burger. Not only was it a hard/difficult dish for the back of house to make and season but it was raw and we will be contacting the health department. I went here for dinner with my family. Overall I'd give the place a 4.25 out of 5 stars. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was great, and the food was good. I felt the food was slightly overpriced for what you got. Not by much but maybe 10% high. We had the calamari starter, a turkey burger, a cheeseburger, and their paella or "Seafood Hot Pot". The calamari was tender and well cooked but I would've liked to have seen some tentacle pieces in there (it was all rings). The beef cheeseburger was a good size and was tasty. The turkey burger was noticeably smaller and also good. The paella seafood was all well cooked, which isn't always easy to do. However, their paella was missing the trademark paella crust at the bottom of the pan. Instead it was soft and wet at the bottom. The paella flavors were good and once again the seafood was all cooked properly. The service was excellent as we were greeted by a very warm and friendly host. We chose to sit outside on their patio. Our waiter was attentive and the staff kept an eye on the glare from the setting sun and lowered sun shades so customers would be more comfortable. Went here the other night and I’d say place is probably better for its drinks than its food. Food was mediocre at best and despite them having a menu of some varying dishes, it was maybe a step above a typical bar food scenario. Baked potato couldn’t even melt the butter, presentation of the food was mediocre at best.

Fajita trio was more like a pound of chicken, little bit of thin tiny steak scraps (probably the edges from someone else’s flank steak) and 2 whole shrimp, but tons and tons of peppers and onions that were beyond overcooked soggy,. For $28 it’s overpriced and way under delivered.

Even the wings were off. One of ours had an extra attachment to the thigh and in 16 wings, we got 2 flats. If you can’t even do wings right, that’s a staple to most bars and one you really shouldn’t be able to mess up. Won’t be going back.

Also please don’t comment that “many others have been satisfied”, that isn’t acceptable a response. I have no intention of coming back, so do better vs it being a hit and miss scenario of how poorly your food was. You need to improve some things given how recent this was. Should have read other...
