Worst Mexican I've ever had. Wife and I both said we would have enjoyed Taco Bell more, and we can't stand Taco Bell.
Waiter spoke poor English, and barely was audible, while wearing a mask (which made it even worse) and when I told him I couldn't hear him, and even put my hand politely to my ear the third time I nicely said he was speaking too low, he just trailed off even more and more.
I ordered Carne asada tacos, and my wife ordered chicken tacos, and they advertised they had peach tea, so I ordered that, but, he said they didn't have it (it was on the menu, and this place just opened for business) so I got a mountain dew. I also asked for more napkins.
The taco's (both of ours) came out on corn tortillas (I prefer flour, but not a deal breaker), which would have been ok, but no sour cream, no Pico degallo, no shredded lettuce. Wife and I both saw that our menu items had Pico, but, we were tired, and didn't realize until we were near being finished (our fault for not mentioning it). There was barely any meat on either of our orders. Mine came with red rice, which I used for filler on my tacos since they were barren of anything would deem it a Taco.
I reminded the waiter that we STILL needed extra napkins , yet they never came.
The home made chips were warm and not too bad, and the salsa was decent. Pretty sad when the chips are better than the meal.
I went to the bathroom before we paid our bill, and was blown away by the dirty and haphazard contract work. The one toilet appeared to be out of TP in the dispenser, so there was a roll of hand towels (used for the hand towel dispenser) on top of the TP dispenser, there was several cleaning supplies just sitting on the floor next to the she toilet (not out of sight - like in a cleaning closet), the only paper towel dispenser was out of paper, so - I had to drip dry hands, next to the bottom corner of the door jamb was a HUGE smear of black/tar like substance, and the tile behind the light switch plate was broken. Poor appearance/upkeep for a JUST opened business.
Sooooo....I come back to our table and see that the damage for the cruddy meal was 40 dollars and some change (for 2 Taco dinners) the wait like and eternity for the waiter to take our bill. The cashier came back a good while later and said he's sorry that it took so long, but that my strip wasn't working so he had to manually enter my card number. I asked "You guys don't have a chip reader?" to which he replied "no". In this day and age, really? Also 40 dollars for 2 people for 3 tacos each that were so skimpy (and no, there wasn't any alcohol on the bill). No thanks.
You're better off traveling further into downtown Pittsburgh to Los Velas in Market Square. So...

Los Mariachis' Day of the Dead décor is a bold choice, especially considering the food leaves you wondering if you've accidentally wandered into the land of the dearly departed. Flavor? Apparently, it's as dead as the décor.
Service: Our waiter valiantly held down… one table. Yes, a single table. Which, in hindsight, should have been my cue to say, "adios!" He seemed to be operating on a different plane, perhaps still Duolingo-ing his English, or simply wishing he was in Cabo (join the club!).
Food Quality: I ordered a chicken taco and received ground beef. If you're into culinary roulette, this is the place to be. My other child, with a simple request of chicken and cheese, received lettuce – a plot twist worthy of a charge, they said.
Pricing/Billing: This is where Los Mariachis truly excels in the art of surprise fees. The children's menu? Adult prices, even if you order from it. Rice and beans, assuredly included with the kids' meal, appeared as "extras" on the bill. My child's simple chicken and cheese became an adult entrée charge, without adult entrée sides. And, to top it all off, they add their merchant fees to your bill when you use a card. Forget piggy banks; this is an expensive lesson in economics.
Atmosphere: The décor is vibrant, but it's a shame the food and service don't match.
Constructive Criticism: Perhaps Los Mariachis could focus less on surprise fees and more on accurate orders and attentive service and mostly, FLAVOR! Gordon Ramsay's shows on customer service and flavor might be a helpful resource.
In Conclusion: We survived the dead, but barely. Los Mariachis is a place where the dead party, and the living ask themselves some very important questions. If you're seeking authentic Mexican food, look elsewhere – preferably somewhere closer to Mexico, Texas, or California. Here, you won't need to worry about leftovers spoiling, but you will need extra money. ¡Con permiso… de...
Read moreI had given this establishment a 5 star because the first time I ate here I ordered a plate called the, CARNE ASADA, I was served a nice big juicy piece of meat which I felt justified the $14-$20 price tag and I was disappointed to go a second time after all the hype I gave this place to find out they’re not consistent; Second time I came excited to try the same plate and was disappointed to find a plate sitting in front of me with 3 small thin sliced pieces of “carne asada”... must’ve gave me the trim scraps that gets cut off the real deal meat because it was not at all what I was served the first time I ordered the plate. Another thing, I tried their taco plate, TACOS CAMPECHANOS, disappointed as well. The maiz tortilla on a taco is meant for the purpose of holding the meat, onions, cilantro, squeeze of lemon, and your salsa without it breaking apart; well these maiz tortillas they use are falling apart before I even pick the taco off the plate; all my fillings falling into my plate, not to mention salsa practically turns your taco into a soggy mess you can barley bring up to your mouth. Their tortilla game is definitely slackingggggggg GACHOOOO. Their service is GREAT; with certain waiters; Ponytail man is the real deal when it comes to customer service. The only reason this post doesn’t have a 1 star; I can recommend their HORCHATA, no doubt, absolutely delicious and REFRESHING! Will cool off any HOT PENNSSYLVANIA DAY or WARM YOUR HEART FROM SATISFACTION IN ANY COLD WINTER DAY! As far as now I feel sad to say that I’m down to 2 stars after I had them at 5 my first visit. Consistency is key and definitely a strong taco is as well in any taco plate; This is my honest review. Follow me for more reviews establishments around your...
