Although the staff was incredibly friendly, the food was just okay. I was excited to take my Mom her for her birthday, especially since the menu was very extensive. I was a little worried when we arrived, because the restaurant was nearly completely empty (this was a Saturday late afternoon/early evening so right around the start of dinner rush), but I was reassured when those who did come in seemed to be regulars and the staff had a good rapport with them. The staff was also very friendly with us and took extra care in getting us our food in a timely matter and asking us questions about our preferences (i.e., spice level). Even though the staff was great, that didn't help the food. Nothing tasted outwardly bad, and we could tell that everything was well-made. It's just that everything had a bit of a muted flavor and left much to be desired. For example, the General Tso's chicken was just bland, despite me asking for it to be a bit spicy. The gyoza and wings were also just okay with not much flavor, and the scallion pancakes were a bit burnt. Overall, the food was a bit disappointing, but I'm willing to give Oriental Pearl another shot because the staff really made an effort to make us feel comfortable!

Update: Food is better reheated. But please put actual basil leaves in the basil chicken dish. I added my own & it tastes much better. Was hoping this could be a one stop shop for my asian foods but food is okay. I ordered beef & broccoli & basil chicken both of which I usually love. Prices weren’t bad but flavor was lacking or just different from what I expected. There’s barely any basil in the basil chicken. Typically this dish includes leaves & it just looks like basil seasoning which barely has flavor in comparison. Not bad overall, no issues ordering, portions are good & I might order again. But more than likely going to shop around for the flavor & expectations I’m looking for. Honestly disappointed in the Philly area food scene as a whole. All these options & most are pretty mid. Keeps me cooking at home & saving money though.

Well, I"m from Chicago and in my opinion there's only one Chinese Restaurant in Chicago that remotely comes close to authentic Chinese food. Once coming to Oriental Pearl about 3 years ago, I just couldn't get the taste of the food out of my mind. To say that it's delicious is an understatement. I didn't even want to eat the Chinese food from Chicago anymore. The food is prepared intricately and the taste is unparalleled. And Ben wonderfully greets you with a smile and always remembers your favorite dishes. Believe me, you must go to Oriental Pearl. I assure that you'll be more than pleased!

Frequent customer however that may change after today’s service. The man who answered the phone was rude and upon our conversation I realized that there is unreliable information amongst and being provided by certain employees. I previously purchased a shrimp lunch special a few weeks ago however, when attempting to order again today I was told they do not offer it. I don’t understand why they could not accommodate my general shrimp request but offer other shrimp lunch options such as teriyaki and kung pao. I would’ve even accepted being charged a couple dollars extra as usual when purchasing the entree however I was not offered that option, instead being told I have to purchase the whole entree which is a significant amount more. I expected more of the service I was provided being I frequently purchase from this location and am...
