Steak ’n Shake — Restaurant in Mooresville

It pains me to write this. It does. I loved Steak n Shake for a long time.

But this chain is garbage now. I'm writing of my experience at the Mooresville store since it's the most recent, but there has been a universal decline in the quality of food and service at every location. I actually talked to one of the managers on the north side of the city who informed me that Steak n Shake recently changed its hiring model so they will hire literally dozens of employees that receive about 5 hours a week, while managers are working 70+ hours but still barely spending any time on the floor.

According to him, this is because of Obamacare. I'd say it's because of idiotic corporate policy and the company knows of an easy target to shift the blame to. (Especially since the mandate doesn't kick in until the employee works 28 hours a week - which leaves their staff approximately 23 hours before they need to worry.)

I have not once in my last five visits to this restaurant had service in a timely manner (including twice when the dining room was virtually empty) nor my food made correctly. In literally five visits my food has not been correct ONCE. And these are not difficult orders - one or two meals with a side. And the food I have been getting can only be called such in the most generous of terms. The patty on my Gucamole Steakburger was literally 1/4 the size of the (burnt) bun with a gaping hole in the middle.

If the information I was told is correct, it's only getting worse from here. Hopefully enough of us will start voting with our wallets to get them to change their tune. I hope they do. I really want to like this...

This location seems to be much better than the Plainfield location.

I was not a fan of the order kiosk and the self serve drink area. No one explained that you have to scan the receipt for your drinks and it’s on a timer. The timer was cutting off the drink before I was able to get any drinks into the cups. So I was trying to put the soda into the cup and the machine wouldn’t turn on. I assumed that beverage was just out of carbonation or something and wasn’t going to get a drink but a kind woman behind me explained it’s times and to rescan the receipt.

When our meal arrived we started eating and of course the food was good. My husband asked if any sauce came with his food, I said I didn’t think so and I got up to ask, my daughter was also missing her sauce, neither of the kids meals came with it but I must not have added sauce to the meal at the kiosk. They no longer carry the chiles in vinagre and the man who was up walking around said that I could purchase a buffalo sauce. I went back to the kiosk and purchased my .50 cent sauce and then waited for the item. Another ten minutes pass and I flag down a worker to ask for the sauce we ordered but by that point my husband was already done with his meal.

I think this would have been a much better experience if we had an actual waiter instead of waiting around for technology to keep up with the people.

The food was good, nothing notable. Tasted just like...

False advertising... Bad Business... Sad because I love Steak n Shake Food...! Even it the line are VERY Slow and they have a hard time getting orders right. But what happened March 19 or 20, 2019 Make me hate and not trust this business. See I was in the drive thru and we order 4 four for four meals, two with bake beans and two with cup of chili. The cashier/ manager gave us the total and it seemed to be about $3.00 more then it was before, I told her that could not be right, she then told us to drive around she explain. she showed me a card she had that the only side was coleslaw unless we pay extra $0.60 each me to upgrade to chili or bake beans..! I then showed her the Coupons and Advertisement that showed we had a choice of three items coleslaw, cup chili or Bake Beans and the Advertisement expired March 31, 2019 and said this false advertising..... she said she did not care and would not take our order unless we pay extra or take coleslaw it in place of the other. Needless to say we did not pay and did not have diner at Steak n Shake. we went to a HONEST BUSINESS the does not trick people or run false advertising. Been thinking we should file a class action law suit....! The kicker it they still running TV ads with a choice or three items...! Sad that a business can do not the right thing or have people that do the right thing...! BAD BUSINESS... has lost my...
