I’ll start by saying I’m not usually one to post poor reviews, as I understand the livelihood of a business depends on positive reviews and word of mouth. However, we had some pretty major issues with our order tonight, that I felt I needed to address.
My husband and I were really looking forward to trying Treasure Island, as it was one of his grandpa’s favorite spots years ago, and we’ve heard such good things about the place.
I’m not sure if the changes in ownership within the past few years have caused a decline in the food quality, or if we just maybe caught them on a bad night.
Appetizers: We ordered the chicken wings. They came with no sauce and tasted like your average GFS freezer to fryer wings. I felt the price was high for the lack of quality. They were $17 for 10 wings, which I can justify for fresh, hand-breaded wings with house-made rubs or sauces. But these were not that. As well, the celery had been under the heat lamp for too long, causing them to lose their color and become bendy.
Salads: Their House dressing was good, but the lettuce mix wasn’t anything special. Just your classic bagged garden mix. There were some brown pieces of lettuce that needed picking out.
Entrees: I ordered the New York Strip with the Potato Boat. I was unimpressed by the quality of the mashed potatoes. I believe they were just instant potatoes as they were thin and lacked any texture. This part is just a personal preference, but they had too much pepper (almost spicy) and not enough salt.
Steak I ordered my steak medium. It came to me rare, so I did politely ask them to take it back and cook it longer. When it came back the second time, it was still not medium; more like medium rare. I noticed right away it had an odd smell. I couldn’t put my finger on it. Not sure if the butter or oil it was cooked in was off. It had a nice char, but not much seasoning. For charging $40 for a steak, I’d expect for it to be well-seasoned and cooked accurately.
Pork chop My husband said they were cooked well - tender with a nice char - however they were bland and flavorless.
Corn Fritter This was the best item we ordered! It had a great taste - reminiscent of fried fair food! The presentation wasn’t anything special though - just the plated fritter with a couple of sealed, plastic cups of Smuckers Maple Syrup.
Service: We did have to remind our waitress that we had ordered the corn fritter as she forgot to bring it to us, but overall she offered good service and I could tell she was working hard. She was helpful, answered all of our menu questions, and was kind. She even comped the price of our drinks for the steak being cooked wrong, which we appreciated the gesture.
I hope we just caught them on an off night and we understand mistakes do happen. It has a very neat atmosphere, with rich history.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure we’re likely to return after...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I are an interracial couple (he’s white, I’m black). He said he remembered going to Treasure Island as a kid and thought they were good. So we decided to take the kids out to eat there. We were seated quickly, however, literally every person at the bar starred at us as we walked by to be seated. Probably because of us being an interracial family. One guy, even kept starring me down with a mean mug. Once seated we were offered drinks quickly, which was nice. And we got our food order taken about 20 minutes of us sitting there. Which isn’t too terrible for a dine in restaurant. However a couple came in around the time we ordered our food. Long story short, they got their food before us. I figured it was because it was only 2 of them and 4 of us, since we had more food it made sense that ours would come out later. The entire time we were there people gwaked their eyes at us. Literally just starting at us like we didn’t notice. So my boyfriend tapped me and says “the lady over there is really interested in us”. And I’m like “yes, so is the man across the other way and the lady seated behind him”. Like come on. It’s 2024, can we please not act like we’ve never seen an interracial couple before? It was just ridiculous. Before we got our food, we had made the decision to hurry and eat, so we could leave because it wasn’t a welcoming atmosphere. The food was okay, but not the greatest. My boyfriend got ribs, which he ate, but didn’t enjoy as much as he thought he would. Our kids did like their food. I had a grilled chicken breast and mashed potatoes. The chicken breast was not cooked through all the way in some areas and it was extremely bland. But, the mashed potatoes were 10/10, they were really good. My boyfriend also said the mashed potatoes he had were tasty as well. Our server, the guy, also looked like he had been high. My boyfriend pointed it out to me. It was just uncomfortable and weird. We decided we would not be visiting the restaurant again. They did have some good aspects, but the overall experience...
Read moreWe went as a party of 10 on a Saturday night at 5 pm. They do not take reservations on Saturday nights so we arrived and had to wait only a short time and they were able to seat us all together. Great job.
Meal prices were about what you would expect at a nice seafood restaurant. I would say they were a little more expensive than the quality of the food we received.
All the meals were ok. The best remarks were on the meal-size salads. The shrimp salad had a ton of shrimp.
The French onion soup had very few onions and very little flavor. To the soup's credit it was not overly salted.
Grilled chicken salad was just ok, this was my first trip so I tried the house dressing, described as a sweet and sour but I would call it creamy sweet, no other real flavor.
Stewed tomatoes were a good portion but not much flavor but sweet no onion or green pepper flavor, again not over salted.
Multiple party members orders the corn fritters but all only eat a bite or two from their side. The fritter was large but was very sweet and unfortunately was more sweet than corn flavor.
They pushed tables together to handle our group but there was not enough room on the table to eat. They bring out a bread basket and a butter basket for each table. The bread was basic loaf bread our party did not care to eat a basic slice of cold bread.
The prime rim ordered medium rare was not warm and more rare but had a good taste. The blackened chicken breast came out grilled not blackened.
They also served a complimentary piece of cake to our birthday girl.
When we left about 6:40 pm and the line was out the door so the restaurant has a strong following. The bar is large and was also full when we left.
Unfortunately the general feeling of the dining experience was that it was ok. I really wanted to love the place. I would go back but it would not be my place to take guests for a...
