The Original Castalano's — Restaurant in Morgan City

First I must say props to the chearful welcoming friendly staff giving this place its cozy environment. As for the food, overpriced for mediocre food at best. I was not impressed as I thought I would be after reading reviews. Crab cakes where very small and tasted like soggy hush puppies/bread, the gumbo was a bit thin and plain for what I'm used to.

Little to no regard for their environmental impact, hence the 1 star! Everything is served in styrofoam togo boxes. Not pleasant to eat from, not Italian, not smart. Plastic foam pieces are second only to cigarette butts as the most commonly identified items removed from OUR coastline.

It is unknown how long it takes for polystyrene to biodegrade. Some experts estimate the decomposition of Styrofoam to 500 years, with limited recycling options. When used with food products, especially when heated, Styrofoam releases toxic chemicals into the food causing a contamination which can be hazardous to your health In addition, when exposed to sunlight, Styrofoam creates harmful air pollutants which contaminate landfills and deplete the ozone layer. This place feels like a family reunion! Everyone in town meets there to pick up dinner to go on Friday nights and the atmosphere feels like grandma's. The food has great flavor and big portions. We were passing through Morgan City and stoped based on the Yelp reviews. It was worth the stop. We had egg plant parmesan, chicken Parmesan, and the Cuban sandwich. They were all delicious.
