Carolina Smoke Barbeque Grill and Copper Still AND Carolina Smoke Streetside — Restaurant in Morganton

During our Mother’s Day outing, we decided we would go to Carolina Smoke in Morganton. My mom had been wanting to go try the food, she had seen pictures on Facebook & sent them to me several times. I had been several times with friends that had ask us to go. When we got there we were greeted by the host (Ashley C.) , and I ask if we could have a booth. Her reply: huff “I guess, but you’ll have to give me a few minutes because I’m going to be your server & I need to put in a few orders.” I said “that’s fine, no rush.” When she came to take our drink order we were still looking at the food menu. So she said she’d come back. Unfortunately, we wasn’t ready when she came back with drinks but we did go ahead & order an appetizer (BBQ Cheese Fries) which was good, although they wasn’t hot- just warmish! She came back to take our food order and someone in our party had ordered the Hot Dog & I said “Does that come with 1 or 2 sides?” Her reply: “IDK no one has ever ordered it with me” Okay…. So she read the menu, we decided it was 1 side. The rest of our group finished ordering. We didn’t wait an incredibly long time for our food. When my food came I ask for mayonnaise for my burger & some ketchup. Our waitress told me she would get the mayonnaise, but I could get the ketchup myself at the sauce bar. Went to get some ketchup, literally one bottle that had enough sauce to fill one cup. When I came to sit back down from getting said ketchup- she had already brought the rest of the food. My mom had also ask for mayonnaise, so when she came back with my moms mayonnaise, I said “I am so sorry to send you back again, but my little guy needs some ranch for his chicken tenders”. (Looking back idk why I even said “I’m sorry” for asking for something. I have been a waitress before and have made multiple trips to the kitchen, bar, etc… as that is the job of a waitress.) Had she been a decent waitress she would’ve ask when we ordered chicken tenders if he would need any dipping sauce. However, As soon as she started to turn around, she huffed one more time but this time … she rolled her eyes. 😳 I felt my head spin!!!!! I looked at my mom, and she looked at me like “Did that really just happen?” My mom got up & went to her & told her that it was VERY unprofessional. And the waitress told another waitress “I’m going to have to go smoke” 🙄 Another waiter walked by & looked at me & I ask him “could I please speak to a manager?” He was very respectful & went straight to get the manager. The “manager” came to where I was & I told her what happened & she said “Oh I understand” whatever that means. No apology, just an “I understand.” I told her I would pay for our drinks but since we just got our food, & I had literally taken one bite of my burger & we wouldn’t be finishing because we were leaving. She said “okay, I will send her with the ticket” I told the “manager” “I did NOT want to see our waitress again & could she please bring the ticket to us?” We waited for about 10 more minutes for our ticket. I finally seen the “manager” again, & went to ask one more time for our ticket. For 3 drinks & an order of BBQ cheese fries, it was $32.75!! Way too much to for some warmish fries & be treated the way we were.

And The women’s bathroom was absolutely disgusting!!! I can assure you, I won’t be back! I do however intend on spreading the word to everyone I know about the HORRIBLE service, in hopes we can save someone else from being treated the...

So I've eaten here 3 times now and have tried 3 of the different taters they offer. First time I went I got the pork tater which comes with a huge baked potato covered aged cheddar cheese sauce, bacon and half pound of pulled pork. It was really good. The BBQ wasn't the best I've ever had but it was good. With my experience in smoking I felt like it needed about 30 minutes back in the smoker after being pulled off the bone. This helps if the meat is kinda greasey

2nd time I went I got the Philly cheesesteak tater and there's 4 options to choose from. I went hibachi style and it was amazing! Whoever was cooking that day can cook Japanese style better than the Japanese restaurants. It got 5 stars from me.

Tonight was my 3rd time and unfortunately the worst. I ordered the Cadillac tater which is again a huge baked potato, aged cheddar cheese sauce, grilled onions and a half pound of brisket. I also paid extra to have bacon added to mine and I requested that the BBQ sauce was on the side and I wanted eastern BBQ sauce which is the vinegar kind. Got my order home and first bite I noticed it had BBQ sauce on the tater. Next thing I noticed was one of my brisket pieces had like a huge 2 inch thing of fat still on the meat. Not sure why you serve brisket like that but ok. Then the biggest thing I noticed was no bacon that I paid extra for and now I check the ticket on my bag and sure enough its right. The cook just didn't pay attention but I'm like whatever it still taste pretty good. I pull that big piece of brisket out to remove the huge fat ring and then I see a huge black hair. I’ll be the first to say I used to love Carolina smoke… key word used to. I won’t be back after tonight’s experience. First I ordered online. It goes through on my account but their end says it doesn’t. I called to talk to them they make it seem like it will go back on in a few days but they will fix the food for me and make it right. Just charge my card again but on transaction would be removed ok no problem! I tell them what I ordered which had a total of 49.95. I tell them the order I come to the restaurant after they said 30 minutes it will be ready. I was a tad later than that my fault but still had to wait 15+ minutes on top of that which ok fine then they go to charge my card tell me why it was 65.08? For the exact thing I ordered. On top of that the food was no where near the quality it used to have. The Philly cheese stakes cheese was not melted just a big hunk of slices. The meat had no flavor on it. The pork tater was decent pork had more fat than meat sadly and don’t even bother with the cheese sticks and “marinara” more like crushed tomatoes with some type of cheese on top of it. Idk all in all being charged more for the same thing I was already charged for and the what I got as far as food being way below the standard I’m used to especially for that price. Nah no thanks. Also I do have to say as far as service. They are trying their best. I saw a good amount of these servers busting their tales to make sure customers were happy.
