Waffle House — Restaurant in Morganton

I am not usually one to complain or even leave restaurant reviews, but tonite was inexcusable. We eat here often and service is usually okay. I meant, it is Waffle House so we don't expect much, but after tonite I am just very displeased. Ten minutes after ordering our food, a waitress (not ours) comes to the table and says, 'we are out hash browns cause the cook 'eff'ed' up, so I just came to let y'all know since your waitress was too afraid to come tell y'all'. She walks away without asking what we would like instead or anything...so then we sit with empty coffee mugs and at this point I'm getting angry that no one cares. They were not that busy that we should have to call someone over to come pour us more coffee. Then the same waitress makes a phone call telling someone (I assume management) that they have no 'eff'in' hashbrowns, saying it right in front of customers. Seriously??? Who does that? I mean, I know it's Burke County but come on! Have you stooped this low that you can just cuss casually with you customers and in front of your customers and think that it's okay? It just went downhill from there...food came out and was just delivered and with no check back on us whatsoever. My husband didn't get half of the food he ordered and his eggs were overcooked so he didn't touch his food. My son and I were completely finished eating before she ever came back to our table. We've had this waitress before and left her a very generous tip, but I was becoming more and more disappointed at the lack on concern while they standed around cluelessly acting like we weren't even there. Then when she finally returned and we voiced our concerns she made excuses about being by herself and that she couldn't help it. That doesn't excuse leaving people hanging and not checking on them. So my husband says he is not paying for his food since he didn't get half his food and what he did get was cooked wrong. The server then comes back 5 minutes later with the bill and huge crocodile tears, which my husband attempted to console her saying it wasn't her fault. They have really gone downhill and management needs to step up their game. I can't see this place staying open much longer with this kind of service. I don't know if we will even go back. As we were leaving hash browns were being served...that is all I really went there for and they could have at least offered them 'to go' if anyone really gave a rats butt or knew how to offer good customer service. Saige, the 3rd shift Manager, just SAVED THE DAY!!! Upon entering the Waffle House I was greeted with complete attitude by our "Oh So Friendly" Waitress, Jennifer(Quotations for Sarcasm). The problems started when she tried to order me to sit in a booth directly beside another couple, but I respectfully declined and stated that I would simply wait for another booth, spaced further away from everyone to become available. I guess that "Our Dear" Jennifer did not like the fact that she would have to take 3 minutes of her time to simply wipe down the table and set it for me. Once I was finally seated, towering over me was my waitress, Jennifer, the ogre with a mustache. Instead of speaking to me in a normal tone bc we were directly beside each other, she started hollering, "Do you need a menu?"....(of course), "Do you know what you want?"....(not really, I just sat down) Rather than cause an issue...I ordered something simple Grits, Toast, and 2 Scrambled Eggs. The real problems started when she got to my friend whom of which just walked into the establishment. She started hollering at him, rushing him to order, but when he asked her to please give him a moment, not to rush him, she stormed off saying, "she refuses to place our order" even after I had already given it. It came down to the manager, Saige, to take our orders and cook our meals and she was beyond courteous and friendly enough to make up for the rude incompetence displayed by "Jennifer" WILL I EVER COME BACK?? (Hell Yes) I'm not going to let one lady ruin this place for me, and if I am ever lucky enough to be waited on by Saige, I would be smitten. Updated review 7/6/24 The Waffle House in MORGANTON, NC has gone down hill on a fast spiral. Our waitress seemed high, another waitress sat in sink, the cook was disheveled and kept leaving (his area was extremely dirty), our waitress made our waffle(good but mangled), the place was a disaster! Floor was so disgusting, never seen it so dirty! Staff sitting in the sink could’ve been cleaning while doing nothing. Another couple had to tell the same waitress we had that their food had been sitting there waiting to be delivered. They should have offered to make a new one BUT she just said sorry and left the cold sandwich. The couple didn’t even eat it, they paid and left. Tables were left unclean, we had to sit where the staff sits and it had dirty dishes everywhere. It was just awful. We use to love to go there. It was our first meeting spot when we first got together.
