My first encounter with Antonio's was way back circa 2008 when I first moved into Mo-ville. I cannot recall the dish, but I distinctly remember I walked away thinking it was overpriced for the quality and quantity.
I was recently lured back, due to my neighbor who enjoys the bar.
I have to say, almost 15 years later and my opinion hasn't changed, but this time I have vivid memories to document what happened and why I feel this way.
The first time back after over a decade I was at the bar during happy hour. They had nachos on the bar HH menu, decently priced too. Well, what came out was NOT nachos. But rather, a soggy pile of nacho chips drowned in queso cheese sauce. I was disappointed because I was expecting chips with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, salsa. NOPE, queso over soggy chips! IF they would have just said, it's queso over chips, I would have been A-OK with it, but asked for my cheese on the side... like a normal side of chips and cheesy dip... not a congealed pile of cheese and wet nachos. But, hey, ok, it was a HH "special," no big right?
Next visit, I was again at the bar, but this time over the weekend with a full menu. I decided to start with an appetizer, fried ricecini balls "stuffed" with meat, peas, and sauce. Well well, let me tell you about this $9 app! Three balls slightly larger than golf balls came out. They were fried to a golden brown, OK. But then I CUT into one! My first ball had a lone, single pea, and barely a dribble of sauce. It's almost as if they tried to short me on the "stuffing" like they used tweezers to place a si ngle lonely pea in there and needed an eye dropper to inject a drop of sauce for color... Oh and what about the meat you ask... It was blended into the sauce. I've seen more meat blended into sauce from a can of Ragu meat sauce. On the last Ricecini ball, we had the fortune of not one, not two, but THREE peas! In order to keep it fair, my girlfriend and I cut the third pea in HALF so we could have equal peas for dinner!
Well, that halted the rest of my dinner order. I checked out. Was unpleasently suprised to find out the weakly poured Jim Beam was $7.
Suffice to say, when I come back to hang with my neighbor, I'll never order food, nurse a single beer and leave.
I'm honestly offended they have the audacity to serve the outrageously skimpy and poor quality food for those prices. The amount of rice they sold me for $9 literally cost less than free peanuts you get at other bars.
I'm not sure why this place has a 4.5 star review. I suspect they are buying reviews. Just look at the food pics here, they are very ordinary and bland looking, certainly not anything highline like the store front and decor imply. They are trying too hard to look good without working hard to be good.
Daceys, Doms in Wash Crossing, Issac Newtons, Hulmville inn, etc, have far superior food...
Read moreI am please to say that the owner did call and resolve my issues.
This will be our final delivery from Cafe Antonio.
I called to place my order and they were experiencing computer issues and had to retake my order. In the midst of this they entered my order incorrectly and this was not caught by either party. Typically, not a big deal.
When the Chicken Milano arrived it was suppose to arrive with Angel hair pasta and a side of spinach subbed for the Salad. I instead received a Chicken Milano with no pasta and a side of spinach. Mistakes happen, I get it. How is was handled by the staff and manager is deplorable at best.
Being very difficult to enjoy a Chicken Milano, I called the restaurant and they immediately took a defensive approach saying that it was my mistake and that I was trying to score a free meal. Maurice the manager informed me that he did not have the authority to remake a meal and that only Anthony the owner could do that.
Re-read that last sentence. Could your business run if you took that approach?
Maurice's solution was to deliver my a side of pasta with the sauce of a Chicken Milano all while refusing to simply remake the meal as it should have been presented. Note, all he would have had to do was to add chicken?!
I asked Maurice why would he send me cold pasta to go along with my now cold chicken and was this how he wanted to represent his food and restaurant? Remember, we waited the typical 60 minutes for the initial order. Thirty minutes on the phone arguing with Maurice and another approximately 45 minutes for the pasta to be delivered. He said again he could do nothing and that if he did this for me he would have to do this for everyone.
Think about the food cost for a Chicken Milano plate. The meal costs roughly $18 and being a smaller venue they probably run a higher food cost of 27% - so this meal represented a cost of $4.86. Because Maurice refused to simply remake the meal so my wife could actually enjoy it, he took a short cut and lost our business.
Cafe Antonio may be known for a great slice of pizza (it's great) is certainly not known for good business sense or customer service.
Very disappointed in what I used to consider a...
Read moreOur girls cousin group loves to go to Antonio’s for lunch. The food is very good and the prices are good as well. The servings are quite large. Of course the Italian dishes we have had were all tasty. Sometimes at lunch I’m just in the mood for a good ravioli with a delicious sauce and a small salad. But If you want a great meal size salad, Antonios is the place to get it. I especially love the cobb salad. The lunch menu is a very good value. That’s why Antonio is such a go to for us gals because we get good food and decent prices. And the menu is extensive enough that I always have a big problem choosing what I’m going to eat. The atmosphere is relaxed and not super fancy. It is pleasant and of course, very clean I’m not always looking for the starched white tablecloth slightly uptight spot. Antonio’s is just relaxed enough to make you feel quite comfortable. I have always had good service there. They have a full bar and a number of mixed drinks to choose from as well as beer and wine. The other day I requested a mixed drink they had not heard of and they willingly took the ingredients and made it for me.
I have never had any problem parking, but then I have not been at night. Parking looks pretty ample though. We have had several larger family events there as well, and Antonio’s was very accommodating My cousin also gave a family and friends party there when her daughter graduated from Villanova. The service was prompt and very friendly and as usual, the food was quite good. I recommend you put Antonios on your list of go to places. I actually travel from Princeton over to Morrisville to enjoy...
