As a preface, my complaint of the quality of the food from El Limón is not unique to this place, but rather a reflection of systematic problems with how Mexican food is prepared, on a widespread scale in the United States in general.
I purchased 10 tacos and overall I give them a 7 out of 10. They taste good but there are things that could improve. Starting with the tortilla, there seems to be a problem with the moisture content because they are a little dry and I think the texture suffers. There is a huge difference between when I make homemade tortillas de maíz and the tortillas that we ate here. They are soft, and not dry at all. The meat filling is alright, but it lacks flavor. I think it's missing fat, among perhaps a little more seasoning. As for las verduras, while I felt content with the amount of cilantro and cebolla, my wife felt like it would have been nice to have a bit more. The limes were good quality and were sufficient for the amount of tacos. Next, is the salsa. I was provided two small containers of red salsa and of green salsa. I enjoyed both salsas. They had good flavor and a fair bit of heat. The problem that I had was that the salsa is treated as if it were an after-thought in the sense that such little is provided, and it gives the impression that salsa isn't a sacred part of tacos and the difference between good tacos and great ones. I believe that more should be provided as it is a good salsa and it adds value, but as it is, I feel like I need to sacrifice the amount of salsa just so I have a little for each taco.
The reason why I'm writing this review is because I know that Mexican food, when done correctly, is absolutely beautiful, and it's something that is sacred to me and it saddens me that I can't get tacos from a taquería(not just El Limón but really just about anywhere here) that equals the quality of the tacos when you visit a...
Read moreOk, so I've been to several el limon locations, everyone was great. Was telling my buddy about it, we are always sending each other to great places to eat, he finally tried El Limon, then at 12:51am I got this text from him.....
My Dearest Joseph,
I hope this text finds you well. Never to be one to forget your impeccable suggestions, I've finally tried El Limon. At approximately 5:30 pm I sat with my family and enjoyed a delicious Mexican feast. Which brings us to now. At roughly 12:14am el Limon had decided to seek Montezumas revenge against myself, my fabrics, my tile, my porcelain, and some would say my soul. As the fury left me my son screamed out from a sound sleep in his crib, as a generational trauma was born. A poltergeist now haunts my bloodline. I am no longer man. I am but a ghost of an idea. Shell shock, ridiculed by my wife. Left naked and afraid. No amount of water and bleach can erase what they have done to me. For I still see it the "blood" on my hands. Or brown more likely. Will I experience joy again? Who knows? Will I experience El Limon again. Most certainly not. But will it ever leave me? Not until my dieing...
Read moreWent to El Limon in Morton, PA for my birthday dinner with a friend. We were seated immediately. As we looked over the menu, a server asked for our drink order. We went with the complimentary margaritas. Another server came to take pur food order, we ordered Chips & Salsa, Steak & Chicken Fajitas and Steak & Shrimp Fajitas. As we sat and waited for our food, we noticed other people who came in after us got Chips & Salsa before we did. The fajitas came out and we asked about the chips and salsa, there was some sort of mix up and we said at this point, we no longer wanted them since our food was served. One of the fajita orders came out wrong, it was chicken and shrimp instead of steak and shrimp. They quickly fixed it. It was plenty of food with only 3 tortillas. They offered us another margarita and they gave us the bill. There seemed to be an additional charge for $4 and when we asked why, they said it was for the shrimp, indicating it cost extra. This was not indicated on the menu unless it is unclear. We paid the...
