I like Guthrie's. They're a small regional chain that started in Alabama, so that probably contributes to my affection for them. They're similar to Zaxby's but with a smaller menu -- chicken fingers only, pretty much. They do have chicken tender sandwiches and I think this location had salads, but -- you get the picture. Crinkle cut fries and slaw for sides, and a signature dipping sauce. My guess is a mayo/ketchup kind of deal with some peppery, garlicky flavors. It's good!
This Guthrie's presented itself as an option on our way through town and we decided to indulge -- there isn't one where we live and I miss it from living in Tuscaloosa.
Currently, this location offers drive through only. We sort of wanted to dine inside just to get out of the car, but it was okay. Prices are reasonable, I think, at around 10 per person. The drive through was a little slow, but we soon learned why -- our food was very fresh! So fresh husband burned the roof of his mouth on a tender, lol. Portions are large, fries were nicely salted, crispy tenders, and really delicious sweet tea. The extra ranch we asked for was also clearly made in house. Yay! The girls working the window were friendly and sweet.
Overall, for what it is, Guthrie's is a solid chain and this is a solid representative of said chain. Give them a chance if you're...
Read moreJust last year I would’ve told you that this Guthries was my favorite restaurant but with the meal I had the other day I dont even know if I’d ever try getting something from this place ever again. First thing is the Texas toast was unbelievably soggy compared to how it used to be, not even the slightest bit of crisp to that toast. Second, that was easily the greasiest food I’ve ever consumed, it was so greasing that not only was the box covered in grease but the inside of the bag that the box was in had a small puddle of grease in the bottom. And lastly, never in my 19 years of existence have I ever been given a naked piece of fried chicken, half the pieces were only partially covered in breading and one piece had almost no breading at all. Not to mention how salty it was. If I was gonna order chicken without breading I’d get grilled chicken that’s at least healthier because it’s not deep fried in oil. The only redeeming factor of this meal was the French fries but it pretty hard to mess those up so I wouldn’t take that as a compliment. Probably gonna get jacks the next time I want tender and if they manage to be as bad as this as well then I think I’m done with...
