Bartolo's is a recent and welcome addition to the variety of restaurants serving the Mount Jackson area. The food is consistently fresh, despite coming with a bit of a wait, and the service is friendly.
That being said, the Mex/Italian menu is abnormally extensive and no one item is good enough to write home about, surely due to the sheer vastness of available items. The online ordering experience leaves much to be desired and the wait time is occasionally jarring, making a 20 minute run into town take closer to an hour. The menu has seen some changes and it's difficult to know what exactly you will receive. Today, I attempted to order my regular BBQ chicken wing, only to pick up an order of chicken, beautifully coated in a teriyaki/General Tso's style sauce. While not unappetizing, it was not what I wanted nor expected, and left me generally unsatisfied and still wanting the chicken I thought I'd ordered.
All in all, Bartolo's brings another option to this side of the Valley. With a beautifully decorated and cozy interior and friendly staff, it is absolutely worth a stop. However, the ordering process, expected wait time and inconsistencies keep this restaurant from pulling ahead of other well established businesses...
Read moreFirst of all...Their salsa is NOT ketchup! It's fresh, cold and refreshing with a gentle kick! So far I have been there 3 times and ordered delivery twice. They are Fabulous! I often order their Harrisonburg Especial. I also have gotten their chile rellenos, queso, guacamole, philly cheese steak, and various entrees from their del mar section on their menu. The food is excellent, hot and fresh! They are very short staffed but do everything they can do to accommodate their customers! Courtney is absolute DOLL! The owner is wonderful and as far as I know, the only chef! Their food is marvelous!! Ya know what else is great? They offer delivery even as far as Bryce Ski resort! These folks have the potential to be here for keepsies!! I can not express how much we love them and their food! Their cheese steaks and Chile rellenos are some of the...

My family and I stopped here because a few years ago, there was a really good Mexican spot in the same place. We figured (or were hoping) maybe they just changed the name or something. Unfortunately they are gone.
I was glad to read these reviews and see I'm not crazy regarding the "salsa". It IS ketchup. The tortillas were disgraceful, literally what you buy in a package at Walmart. The guac was browning - not gross, but just naturally turning. If you add enough citrus and store it properly this won't be an issue.
And as others have noted, the flavor just isn't there. I think it's for people who buy those Old El Paso taco kits. People who hate hot peppers and think Mexican food is Taco Bell. I'm not Mexican but I could do better than this at home and that is why paying for it...
