Since ever my wife and I moved to Charleston, we have been a fan of Basil Thai, especially, the one at Park Circle. But, unfortunately, their location at the Mount Pleasant disappointed us tonight. We have a 16 weeks puppy who's going through separation anxiety and wanted to dine with us outside but they refused their service unless it was a certified service dog. We also explained that she's under training and learning our lifestyle. We have been to their other location at Park Circle, we dinned outside with no problems, in fact, we were given complimentary water for our puppy and the staff just loved our puppy. We were under impression compliance would be same throughout every location since it is a brand. We decided to do a take out, we waited for 25 minutes outside in the car and when it was time for pickup, the door was locked. Upon knocking the door, a staff member came and said "wait outside I'll bring your order". Now what should someone feel, unwelcomed?? Discriminated?? The staff was not even polite to say "sorry we are closed for the night, could you please wait outside while I bring your food". Politeness and respectful behavior by the staff can take customer service to the next level. Not allowing pets in an outdoor location is not cool. Many places in Charleston, South Carolina welcome your pet. I mean one of the reasons people love Charleston is for their pet friendly policy everywhere. You are not pet friendly, sorry I'll take my business somewhere else. This...
Read moreReally terrible customer service today 5/13/2018 at Basil Mt. Pleasant! I attempted to call in a to-go order just a few minutes after 5pm. It took 15 minutes before I could even get someone to answer the phone; busy signal... I called Basil downtown Charleston to find out what was wrong and they said it's Mother's Day and they're swamped and I would just have to keep trying since there's only one dedicated phone line. No one had a manager's phone #. Really? I have never had this problem on other major holidays. When someone finally answered the phone at the Mt. Pleasant location she put me on-hold to clarify if I could order a large curry sauce with my to-go order (I told her I was already aware there was an up-charge for the large sauce) and then the call was disconnected. I called back AGAIN. Waited another 10 minutes before the same attendant who disconnected my call previously finally answered and explained it be would be 45 minutes before my to-go order would be ready! Unbelievable! Step-up your game Basil staff or I will not be dining at your restaurant in the future! Normally, I have a very pleasant dining experience at both locations; today the customer service level hit absolute rock bottom! I am going to tell as many people as I can about my negative experience today. If I could list a "negative" star, I...
Read morePlease note that many of the dishes marketed as vegetarian contain a fish based. That would be a pescetarian (some spell it pescatarian); regardless it is a vast distinction for someone with a lifelong allergy. Not to mention some menu items marked vegetarian contain chicken... but that was easy to avoid as the description lists chicken as an ingredient.
I very rarely leave negative reviews, I love all of the restaurants here in Charleston. However, I specifically looked at the menu ahead of time and then inquired as to whether or not the dishes marked vegetarian contained ANY chicken, beef, fish, or oyster broth. I asked the waitress to check on this for me, and was given bad information. Luckily, I received a response to a snap I posted from a friend that said "careful, almost everything there contains fish sauce". I pulled aside a different waiter, who in fact confirmed that I would need to change my order. The whole thing was super uncomfortable for someone just trying to have a nice evening out and not be "that friend" with the food limitations. A restaurant with a large tourist base and as many locations as Basil should have comprehensive training for their staff, and really shouldn't market themselves as a vegetarian friendly...
