Lovely little French cafe with wonderful treats. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The cappuccino was excellent, the almond croissant tasty and flaky. The pain au chocolat was good but could have benefitted from being warmed up. Macarons are also delicious. The apricot almond danish was literally perfection - still thinking about it. Mmmmmmm.
UPDATE: Unfortunately this cafe seems to have taken a hit - perhaps Covid related? We've gone a few times since our review and tried several things. We were holding off to see if it was a fluke, but have identified several things that have lapsed in quality. What has stayed wonderful is the coffee, the macarons and the butter croissants. However, the danishes and pastries all seem to be made now with the exact same dough, though these different pastries should have different doughs. They all just taste like a croissant in different shapes with different toppings. The desserts are going gluten-free which is a nice idea, but the sponge is a little chewy and not great. It's very hard to match what regular flour does in these desserts, and so far it doesn't work. The worst choice we've come upon is to use the flour for savory crepes to make gluten-free sweet crepes. It really doesn't taste good. And when asked to top it with a banana, the banana was so over-ripe it was sickeningly sweet - that banana was good only for banana bread in a very diluted form. You can buy gluten-free all purpose flour and make absolutely delicious dessert crepes (we've done this successfully at home). It just seems like a lot of cutting corners, and lack of understanding regarding gluten-free desserts. Let's hope they get better soon. We'll be sticking to the macarons and coffee for now.
Update - Now FTC Cafe- run of the mill fare - downgrade
Update - Back to Saveurs du Monde and great...
Read moreWhat can I say. J’adore Saveurs du Monde! So happy my son and his wife moved to Mt pleasant! I had already googled French bakeries before they even moved:). I love all their viennoiseries but my weakness is the chausson aux pommes ( apple turnover.). A single bite and I’m transported back to France where I was born. That’s how good they are. I also love their baguettes. Makes for a great ‘jambon/fromage’ sandwich with Dijon mustard of course! Yes I did sample a few pastries as well. Paris Brest is my other weakness. It’s made of choux pastry and praline flavored cream. As you bite into it just close your eyes and you’re in Paris! It’s named after the Paris-Brest bicycle race by the way. Next visit I will sample the macarons which I have resisted so far. I might just try a delicious crêpe as well. Oh and if ever you have a craving for a fresh and delicious quiche you can buy a whole one. Even though I can make my own it was nice to take a break. It served six people. Of course I had two servings it was that tasty. Ah and the crust … was perfect! Of course before I drive back home to NC I make sure I stop by Saveurs to bring extra viennoiseries and baguettes home. I often order the day before just to make sure. All this to say that I’m very picky( my friends and family will attest to that) and I give Saveurs an A+. Everything I tasted has great ‘saveur’ and freshness. Just make sure you go there early before everything is gone. I dare you to buy just one thing. C’est impossible:) Bonne...

Addressing the reviews then we'll talk about Quiche Lorraine and Macarons. So many of these recent 5 stars reviews look so sketchy to me. First they get so many 5 stars recently and then they all look and sound so similar? They just all happen to have really well done photos and sound similar???
Now the food,
Quiche Lorraine: $10 for either not made in house or not freshly baked every day (and they microwaved it). First red flag was it came out steaming. Normally that'd make you think it was fresh but I could eat it right away. The temperature was uneven throughout with some warm and cool spots and the top of the center looked liquidy (not to mention the filling was more liquidy than moist). It didn't maintain the heat at all which is telltale sign of microwave. Not to mention that the top crust wasn't a crust. Running over it with a fork made no noise. It was soft and not crispy and flaky. Was so dissapointed I went to Wild Flower Pastry right after because I wanted a GOOD quiche.
TLDR: not fresh, microwaved, and WAY overpriced
Macarons: Flavor was fine but macarons are supposed to be light and airy not empty. (Also they were crumbling apart).
TLDR: save your money and buy the frozen...
