Oh where to start? At the beginning I guess. Arrived at 6:58pm for our 7pm reservation. Was told there were currently people sitting at “our” table and we could wait at the bar. Looked at the table we were assigned and the customers there had a half a bottle of wine left and they had already been there since 5pm. I was not going to wait at the bar for these people to finish half a bottle of wine, not to mention there were three empty tables that were the right size for our party. Apparently there were other reservations for those tables and the hostess couldn’t figure out how to move one party to a different table. She did finally manage to figure out how to seat us at a different table and we were seated about 7:10pm. No big deal. Photo shows you the “table decorations” you can expect to see here. Waiter came and took our order for drinks. 2 diet cokes and a coffee. Coffee came and it was only lukewarm. Hey, it’s a bar, coffee’s probably not a popular choice. He finally returned to take our food order. Once the food arrived, about 30 mins later things took a turn for the worse. My shrimp and grits was cold. Not slightly warm at all. Cold. Once the runner finally came with the last item of food I told him my food was cold. He said “ok” and took it away with a smile on his face. No apology, no assurance he’d be back with warm food. Nothing. The other three members of the party had ordered various items, all with French fries. Every single serving of French fries was cold and soggy. Once the shrimp and grits were returned to me I was happy to see that they hadn’t just microwaved my original plate, however my new plate of food did not have the tomato cream sauce it was supposed to have and was incomplete. When I asked to speak to the manager regarding the experience and problems with the food she came to the table and said “oh I’m so sorry. I don’t even know what to do!” Ummmm you’re the manager of a restaurant! If you don’t know what to do about cold fries and incomplete dishes then it might be wise to find a different career. A member of our party finally said “can you just get us some hot fries and a hot shrimp and grits made the way it’s stated on the menu?” Manager went away and took care of these items. In all this time we NEVER saw our waiter. Finally got the hot fries and the correct dish and although it was nothing to write home about the food was satisfactory at best. For full transparency our entire meal was comped, which we didn’t ask for, or expect. It’s a shame even that couldn’t change my opinion of the place. I would not recommend this place in any way, shape or form which is such a shame because the views are gorgeous. Oh, by the way, our original table we were “assigned” ordered champagne, that they included their waiter in and didn’t leave until 8pm. Had we gone to wait at the bar we would have waited an hour for a table we had a reservation for, when there were three...
Read moreI came here a few times last year and absolutely loved the food, service and the beautiful view of Shem's Creek. Fast forward one year later, prior to making reservations I checked out their online menu, it appeared to have changed, but that's fine I like a variety of different foods. I wondered if maybe ownership had changed due to the different menu. I was correct the restaurant did change hands. I ordered their "todays taco's" (2)which were very good, no sides included which was fine by me since I'm watching what I eat. My girlfriend ordered her "dinner entrees" seared New Bedford scallops which consisted of 3 scallops. The meal was $30, no sides so do the math $10 a scallop. Now being from Massachusetts & have worked in the hospitality industry for most of my life and purchased directly from the seafood district in Boston I knew what the cost of the scallops were about .15-.25 a piece wholesale. I was absolutely "floored" when the order was brought to the table, I addressed my concern to our server (who provided impeccable service) I asked to speak to the manager "Taylor" I give him a lot of credit to stand there and hear my critique the meal. I explained that I'm not one to complain, all the server has to do is check in with us now and then & that the server will get an automatic 20%-25% gratuity, I know how hard they work. Taylor listened to my concern which I appreciated. He did his very best to accommodate my concerns which I very much appreciated. I told him I was very disappointed with the portion it was more like an appetizer, charging $30 was just outright wrong. When it was confirmed to me new owners took over in June I was not surprised. I understand we are living in a "different time" restaurants are struggling to stay open, I'm willing to support them but not when you are charged $30 for 3 scallops it's just plain wrong. I hope the new owners listen to my criticism and turn it into a positive otherwise come a year from now their doors will be closed. One last thing I reviewed Mill Street Tavern a year ago, the reviews are...
Read moreUnfortunately, we were seated to the left of the hostess stand with two other large parties. The table behind me consisted of young adults whose favorite word was f**K. Every other word. It was more disturbing, because of their volume. One volume setting and that setting...LOUD. The overall volume in the restaurant, perhaps more on our side, made it difficult to hear each other speak or to even enjoy our meal together. Oh, and there was also unnecessarily loud and bad music playing. We asked the server if she could see about turning the music down a bit and she rolled her eyes. I left with a migraine.
The food was not great. The roasted Brussels sprouts were just charred black. Inedible. They should not have been put on a plate or brought to a table. Three of us had steak frites. My meat was alright, but had a funny taste. The diner across from me had meat that was just gristle. She could not cut it or cut around it, let alone chew and swallow it.The cocktails may have been made non-alcoholic, because the alcohol was undetectable in all of our drinks. An expensive disappointment. We had 6 adults and were relegated to the deafening, low ceiling, blasting music, small section of the dining room where they had two larger tables and the college age/pre-professionals with the limited vocabularies. I would only return here in the off hours and I would probably eat only appetizers with a non-alcoholic beverage. It was a disappointment all around. I really liked this place the 2 or 3 times I dined there previously and with one other person. The menu has changed, not for the better. The food this time seemed of lower quality and was not prepared well. It just wasn't fun or worth the price and I felt embarrassed for having chosen this restaurant for my out-of-town family member's...
