Krekel's Custard Mt. Zion — Restaurant in Mount Zion

Went through drive thru and ordered 3 meals, 2 of which i ordered with large root beer floats. She handed us mediums and we politely told her that was wrong. She then said that is a large. I've been going to krekels over 20ish years and the large has always been the biggest size cup they have, and had just had one the day before. She held up the large cup and said, "i know it wasn't in this." We said yes it was. She went and talked to someone and said," it depends who is working the drive thru what size a large is." Seriously? Then she said we were charged for mediums, not a large, which also made no sense since she was claiming what she handed us was a large. She remade our drinks in the larger size and charged us more. Not sure if I ended up paying more than I should have or not. She had a horrible attitude and we will not be going back. If they did downsize their shakes and floats, she could have said that and it wouldn't have been an issue. I tried to leave a post on their facebook page, but that apparently...

I was in Decatur again, so made my customary visit to Krekel’s. Food and service, as always, were excellent.

BUT!!

A revelation for me. Tried the hot fudge milkshake. It was an epiphany. Simply delightful. How did I not know this wonder existed!?? A treat for the ages.

Update as of July 2024:

Was back in Decatur and made my trek to Krekel’s. Still the best hamburgers in the Midwest. My daughter (who considers herself a connoisseur) declared them the best she’s had anywhere (and she’s travelled a fair bit). Shakes and ice cream are excellent, and I really like their fries.

Staff always takes good care of us and is super nice to my elderly parents.

I left my old Post below as I am still in shock to the Horrible food and service that I received! Our venture started in the drive up. When we ordered we asked for our burgers to be extra well done. We ate one in the car and it was so greasy and pink inside it was making me sick to try and choke it down. We took the other burgers back and when they remade them they where not cooked either! They were rude and said you ate one so we're not going to remake it, I wanted to say let me Chark it up for you! It cost us $9 for some frys that were cold and gross and some watered down soda! No one said, can we make this right, no one apologized, nothing, just rude! Sad day for what was my favorite burgers, which we drive from Taylorville to get.

Not anymore! By far the best hamburgers around! Inside the booths are a little small and I wish they had tables so I have to eat in my car, but worth it for...
