Amazing! We never expected to find this quality of food and service in Mountain Home, AR. Another couple, my wife and I were only in town because we had to drive down to the nearest big box store to the river resort we were at in southern Missouri. Once we got in town we saw the usual smaller town places like Coltonâs, Chiliâs an Applebees but those were packed on a Friday night and they are predictable. We checked Yelp for the top restaurants and ran across Cooyons. So glad we did. It is a renovated house and it was a little difficult locating your front door but once you are inside it is casual and inviting, kind of like being in a family kitchen. Our server was the owner and you can tell she and her husband love this restaurant and the food. She gave us loving descriptions of each entree we asked about as well as the specials. They have a few local ciders and beers as well as the usual selection. We had the boudin balls, alligator bites and shared a bowl of the red beans and rice. The alligator was tender, lightly breaded and delicious and the boudin balls were flavorful but the red beans and rice stole the show! The flavor was amazing with the perfect amount of seasoning - flavorful spice but not hot. For entrees we had two specials - two orders of the court-bouillon (pronounced COOBY - ON) with catfish and shrimp and one order of the gumbo with shrimp and andouille - and one order of BBQ shrimp. All were absolutely wonderful and full of flavor. Our friend who had just been in New Orleans said they rivaled any meals she ate there. The desserts we tried were a multiple layer chocolate cake and a lemon berry cake with blueberry compote. They were very tasty although I would rather eat another entree instead! I can guarantee that we will be back the next time we are anywhere close to...

Came here hoping for good Cajun food. Walked in at 6:30 with a group of 8 adults and 2 kids. Took about 10 minutes to get us seated. When we got seated they had to split our party between two tables (which wasnât expected but is what it was) and then we were informed their ac was doing a poor job. The waitress quickly got our drinks and appetizers written down and we ordered the kids food right off the bat (chicken strips). It took 45 minutes for the chicken strips to get to the table and it wasnât cooked fully through. The waitress was upset about us asking about it but did send it back to be recooked. Our apps were received maybe 5 minutes after.
It was 8:11 when we all received our main food. One order of fish wasnât cooked fully and one of the salads received was warm. The food was subpar based on what we were expecting and the wait we had (1hr and 10ish min after being seated). We ordered roughly -gumbo -creole -red beans and rice -catfish -chicken strips -salad -chicken sandwich.
The waitress did remove the fish that wasnât fully cooked off the ticket. As we were signing tickets she informed us they had two call outs and only two cooks in the kitchen. That combined with the heat of the restaurant probably was a stressor on the...
Read moreMy husband Bob and I finally got a chance to go for some Cajun food. It was well worth the wait.
We were met at the door by Antoinnette. Her husband and her are the owners. She took us up to the upper dining room which the decor is very nice and homey. I felt at home as soon as I entered the building.
The menu has a very nice array of choices. I believe everyone could find something of their liking.
We started off with alligator bites. They were very good. They threw in some onion bits for some added flavor which I liked. Remoulade was great and added a little kick to dip the alligator in.
My husband ordered Crawfish ĂtouffĂ©e. He said it was loaded with tender crawfish and the flavor was good. He said it had just the right amount of spice for him.
I had BBQ shrimp which is one of my favorites. This came with a small salad of fresh greens, onion and tomato and very good raspberry vinaigrette. The BBQ shrimp were tender and cooked to perfection. It was served over jasmine rice. Not sure how they made this rice but I assure you it was the best Iâve ever had.
The food is not overly spicy. If you like a little bit more heat tell them to kick it up a notch or two.
This is a restaurant worth going to. Antoinnette and her husband took a chance opening a restaurant here in Mountain Home and Iâm sure...
