I've been trying to hold my tounge regarding my distcusting eating experience in this place called West Berlin. Several months ago my daughter in-law and I visited this place for the first time. I happened to be from Berlin, Germany and felt totally insulted by this so called restaurant to use the name of my home city. We decided to go for lunch at around 11:30 am, before the rush. Well, there wasn't a rush. The first thing we noticed that no aromas of actually cooking was present. Although the kitchen/grill was clearly visible, one would expect to hear and see actually cooking being done, nothing even resembling any type of cooking was going on. I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel, fried potatoes and red cabbage, which is about as simple as it gets at any german restaurant. The schnitzel was, perhaps, cooked some time ago, definitely not at our visit, no fried potatoes available, instead "german potatoes" salad was offered. Again, this salad was not prepaired at this location, I can only imagine where! I did get red cabbage, definitely not cooked at this location. Some jar was opened and presented to us. My DIL asked for a simple house salad, not available. After about three month after our visit I am still outraged of this excuse that calls itself a restaurant, and a german restaurant called West Berlin. By the way Germany was reunited in 1992, there is no such thing as East or West Berlin. Absolutely disgusted with our "Dining...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOver all; good food, bad service, rude server, although knowledgable. Nice, quiet atmosphere. Good seating for a small venue.
Our server seated us, told us about the owner, and told us everything was fresh made in house. Our server was very impatient about us looking over and asking questions about the menu. Glared at my party when told they werent ready to order yet, silently staring at them until ordering. Very awkward, unfriendly. We could only order 1 app to share and 1 entree a piece, no desserts since the check, getting cashed out, was pushed on us. The apple strudel sounded good. Our drinks were forgotten about until after the food served, getting cashed out quickly pressuring us to finish the drinks.
We had pretzel for app, which was cold in the middle, despite our server telling us everything was fresh, and made in house that day. The beer-cheese was thin, with slight alcoholic bite, almost underdone or too much beer. The mustard was great, spicy and tangy. The rahmschnitzel was very tender and cream sauce on top was also very good, although I believe I was served pork instead of the chicken I had ordered. I asked which sides the waiter preferred, the red cabbage and fried egg noodles for sides was a good recommendation. Made in house, vs the slaw which can be found "anywhere".
TLDR; reheated food, rude staff, good atmosphere, quiet/no music or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy folks and I have been patrons of this place for several years, and I have always marked it as one of my absolute favorite eating establishments...
However...
The last 3 times we've found it severely lacking. The quality of food has dropped, Yes; but far worse, the attitude with which my parents and I (and several acquaintances as well ) have been met with has been unbelievably rude. I was so shocked and offended by how I was spoken to over the phone when I was attempting to place a take out order, that I actually hung up on the lady I was talking to.
It was so disappointing. I have always loved this restaurant and have always looked forward to the entire experience. I am completely mystified at the way my questions and comments were responded to.
What has happened? Is there some sort of new management?
In any event, I will no longer be spending any time or money at this restaurant. Nor will my parents (who literally live right around the corner). Nor will my friends.
So much for valuing loyalty .
Of note, had I simply related this story to my parents, they would have never believed it. Fortunately, the conversation occurred on speaker, as we were all planning to order.
We are all...
