AWFUL....Just Awful. I like to write nice reviews. I just can't this time. Here's the story. We arrived in town kind of excited to try this restaurants that has nice reviews. We ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken, Almond Chicken and Mushroom Chicken. All were a disaster. I am a very experienced cook, so I will add my opinion of what went wrong. Sweet and sour chicken. Tempura style batter. Nice. Sauce, Very nice. Chicken, so tough the dog had a hard time with it. So overcooked it was ruined. What happened? In my opinion The fryers had been turned off early (it was close to closing on a Sunday). The fryer turned back on, but failed to reach proper temp before chicken added. As a result the chicken was fried for a much longer time because the batter failed to brown in the normal amount of time. Almond Chicken. Nice vegetable selection. Cut nicely. NOT A SINGLE ALMOND SLIVER. Not one. The sauce was as thin as water and ran all over the to go bag. What happened? I have no clue why almond chicken had no almonds, but the sauce was nuked to warm it, and over heating in a microwave destroyed the thickness of the starch and turned it into the thin liquid we received. It tasted like straight Soy Sauce and we drained it to be able to eat the veggies and chicken. Mushroom Chicken. No Chicken, no mushrooms, simply an unusual selection of veggies in the same disgusting watery sauce as the Almond Chicken. These meals were picked up by us to go, early to mid afternoon, on Sunday...
Read moreOkay. I really want to give more stars, but it's... sticky. Like, literally, everything was sticky. The server appeared to be having a rough day (not his fault, he did okay), and the pad see ew i ordered was... definitely not pad see ew.
That covers the bad, so let's hit the good- despite being a somewhat made up dish that they called pad see ew, the noodle dish i did get was delightfully flavored, and I scarfed the whole plate happily. My wife had a similar experience with her 'pad kee mao,' which came out more like a bulgogi beef with Thai noodles. The food was prompt, fresh, and a wonderful find in a place like Mtn View, WY.
I'll definitely go back and try the actual Chinese part of the menu- the Thai section in the restaurants name was hidden in the very back of the menu- and may re-rate higher once I've tried something they actually know how to make. Considering how good the thai-chinese fusion thing was that I got, they've earned at least one more trip.
I know this review is a bit back and forth, but the contraption on my plate was, like, seriously good. I can't rate less than 4 stars, for ingenuity if nothing else. If you're in the middle of nowhere in WY, try...
Read moreZheng Zhong was a "happy for my stomach" find in the middle of a small town. I would have given it a 5 star review, but the atmosphere could use a little pick me up. They are super friendly and attentive. Food is absolutely freshly made, and because of that you kind of get the tables meals one at a time. We were there around 3pm so I'm sure the in-between time affected the cooks. Even when we requested some sides to make the flavor of the food hotter, they were kind. They are super attentive to offering to go containers and just all around nice. Food...
