Update 6/23. Still never know what you'll get here. Place was empty and had to walk back to the takeout area and ask a cook who peeked out for service in the dining room, since the bartender walked away and no server for 10 minutes. Server was ok as it got busier (2 more tables of 2 and 3 ppl at 5pm Saturday). Pizza was good as usual but to my disappointment I bit into a "bacon cheeseburger roll" and put on my glasses and something looked greenish and something was crunchy. So I disected the last bite and it appeared to be sliced steak and a big one inch chunk of crunchy fat sliced three ways. Certainly not bacon and not burger. No thank you so wont order again. Also my bad didn't notice it came with thousand island on the menu not marinara so I was charged 75cents for one.
We've been to 3 of the Calientes, the other two dine in. This one is difficult to review when most orders have been take out. Sometimes the pizza is ready and waiting and others we've had to wait 20 extra minutes inside only to find our orders were right in front of confused staff and or given to another waiting customer. Not particularly comforting after covid and unmasked staff (3) and a customer all in proximity having touched our bagged and now cooled wings. Always have to check that the price is correct when using gift certificate that we haven't been double charged tax. Always need to microwave a lukewarm pizza. Inside dining is much better but being a bar is always noisy when busy. Fresh dough is the.main thing the pizza has going for it. Toppings are usual. Sauce is generally good and tasty but sparse. Read moreAfter waiting for 1.5 hours for food about 6 months back and it being delivered ice cold, they made it right with a $30 credit on my next order. Okay and thank you for that. Called to try again... small pizza and 1/2 hoagie. Price $21 + change, leaving $8+ credit and asked could you just give the rest for the tip. When trying to get the manager approval to do that, he accidentally hangs up on me... i call back, confirm my order is in place and wait time is 1.0 - 1:15. (Understood - its Friday evening. ) So 90 min later, I called to check... no answer...3 more attempts over the next 30 minutes, no answer ...I give up and assume we are not getting food. Called a different place and ordered a pizza. 2 hours and 20 minutes later, a very rushed and anxious person shows up I ask him if he knew how long it has been.. he did not...Says their delivery is shut down now and they are 4 hours out. And that I owed him $2.68. Hmmm... Gave hime the $3, and pretty sure he cussed me out on his way down the steps. I dont blame him for that... but because I had already called another place to get food I was short on cash, and couldnt tip him. So to the kid that came to my house, I'm sorry. I didnt have enough cash because i was expecting another delivery. And to the manager, please give the kid the $8 credit that I have left on my account. I wont need it. And please let him keep the $2.68. I didn't owe it to you, and I'm sure he is not having a good night, (through no fault of his own). Thank you. P.S. lots of good pizza places around here dont deliver... either figure it out or...
Read moreMy wife and I had a short time to eat before going to a Band Festival at Mt. Lebanon High School. I knew Caliente was nearby and I was looking for a good meal and beer selection. I called ahead, as it was Friday night, and the host said that they were not busy and walk-ins were immediately being seated.
We arrived at were greeted by the hostess. She suggested we sit upstairs in their new bar area. We went up there and seated ourselves at the bar. The bartenders came in and set us up with menus and beer lists. I was happy because the lists were really well-done. They had a solid variety of beers and cider for the wife. The food selection is not wide and varied at Caliente; pizza, wings, sandwiches make up the majority of the food. The bartender offered us a special on personal pizzas for $5. 4 pieces, one topping was a good deal I thought. The pizza was good sized too.
We ordered our beer and cider and food at the same time since we were short of time. I had the 2 Minutes to Midnight, a collaboration beer between Caliente and Spoonwood. Yum! My wife had Arsenal Cider.
The pizza and zucchini we ordered arrived shortly after the beer and cider. The pizza was good and the zucchini was good too. They batter theirs which is not my favorite way to have it but it was still good.
We ate and left around 7:00. It was not much busier when we left. However, we were in and out in an hour which was all the time we had.
Overall, the food, service and atmosphere were good. I would recommend Caliente for anyone looking to have a good meal and...
