We wanted to try something we had not done before and had a hankering for Japanese food. One of our acquaintances suggested that this place had more than just the standard Japanese Steakhouse offerings, so we checked out the menu, saw that was indeed the case, and decided to try them out. Being the middle of the week, the place was busy but we were still seated right away. We thought that would be a good sign. Our waitress showed up right away and asked for a drink order, then came back quickly with waters. However, the first oddity of the night happened right then. She basically disappeared. We waited for over 30 minutes for her to come back with the one water glass she forgot and to take our order. She was still there, she just managed to constantly ignore our table and turn around and walk the other way every time she passed by. Now, the restaurant was not THAT busy, nor was it understaffed. Eventually, one of the other waitstaff noticed that we were just sitting there and asked us about it. We mentioned that we were not sure what was going on and she got our waitress to come back. From that point on there was no problem with the service, but that was odd, and it cost this place on star on this review. The menu does have the standards. But we came to try other things so we focused on those. We ordered the grilled beef dish, a Udon dish, the Red Snapper soup, and a couple of Sushi rolls since the people who recommended this place raved about it. We also looked over their surprisingly large wine list and ordered a Sake tasting and a bottle of Riesling. Here came the other oddity of the night. The order in which the dishes arrived was perplexing. First came the Miso soup that came with the beef dish and the salad that came with the Udon. Then came the Red Snapper soup, the Udon itself, and the beef. Only finally did the Sushi arrive. What's with that? We stated that we were going to share the sushi as the appetizer between us? There goes another star. Now on to the taste. The bottom line is that everything was just average. We've had better sushi at other places in town. The Red Snapper soup had one small piece of fish in a very salty broth (see picture for the one piece we found). The Udon was a very generous bowl of soup... not what we envisioned from the description. And so on. So, overall, not a bad meal and experience... just average. So, a three star rating is fully justified.

Very disappointed with the owner Frank I knew him since i was a young boy. Today I went with my family to eat and celebrate me going off to the army. We all order our food and ate all of it besides the habatchi steak and shrimp. I ordered it medium and it came out well done and the shrimp was overcooked and gritty. I confronted the waitress about it and they brought over the owner who proceeded to yell at me and tell me to eat his food because that's how it is made all over America. Afture my family finished eating I was brought the check and asked if the owner could take it off the check because it did not come out right and was really dry and dident enjoy it. He then starts to rant about how privileged I am to eat his food and be in a famous restaurant and that no one else was complaining. I appoligized and explained to him we dident eat it and would like it taken off, and then proceeds to embarrass me in front of other customers. Only afture 6 minutes of arguing and apologizing did I get that taken off the recite and was then bad mouthed by him in front of other customer. loved this restaurant and have been going their since I was a kid about 15 years but will never set back in afture today with the amount of disrespect toward the customer with a complaint about food I dident even eat. TL:DR- Went to celebrate, ordered an dish that was not right and real dry, asked to be taken off check afture trying a single bite, was then embarrassed and told to be grateful to be able to eat at a famous restaurant by the owner frank and was berated in front of other customers.

What can I say that hasn't already been said about this place? I was told about this gem of a restaurant through reddit. As a west coast girl, I'm particular about my sushi. I maintain that Oakland, CA has some of the best sushi on that side of the Mississippi. For this side, I have found that this restaurant is up. Perhaps the best sushi in Pittsburgh.

My boyfriend and I came in with empty bellies around 5:15, fifteen minutes after the restaurant opened. A party of five was before us, and we were followed by a few parties of two. Right away, we were glad we came early. This place fills up fast. I would plan accordingly, as weekend popularity should be expected. We were sat close to a window, the table was clean and set. Our server took a few minutes to approach us and offer waters, then gave us a bit more time to peruse the menu. My boyfriend ordered a fried chicken dish with veggies, I tried my best to get a diverse pick of rolls. I know that it's very American of me, but I couldn't pass up the Philly roll. I also got a discovery roll and a third one that was off the menu, as my original third pick was out that day.

I don't mind 86's when it comes to sushi. You work with the fish you have that day, so I was more than happy with something mysterious. We also got a bottle of sake to share. Both meals came with the option of miso soup or a salad. We got our soup and salad first. His soup was wonderfully salty and piping hot. My salad was a typical restaurant house salad, but the dressing was something orange and tasty.

The sake was served cold, which corrected my original assumption that it is always served hot. Ignorant American moment! Still, it is a nice drink for those who like their alcohol dry. I enjoy a good sake, oddly enough, even though my drinks of choice range more sweet. This was my boyfriend's first time, and he seemed to like it more as the bottle went.

Our entrées took a bit of time, but the wait was worth it. I was told that the owner of this place is particular with choosing his fish and it showed in my meal tonight. Everything tasted fresh and yummy! The rolls were somewhat loose, but the flavor more than made up for that. I was in sushi heaven my entire dinner. The third roll was a great suggestion by our server, but the discovery roll was easily my favorite. My boyfriend's chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. It came with a dipping sauce that was sublime. Good food and conversation, what more do you need from a Friday night?

We sprung on dessert because we were full but not stuffed. The dessert menu is all ice cream, but they have it in three types. There were the mochi balls, the fried ice cream, and then your run of the mill scoops. We got both flavors of the mochi, red bean paste and green tea. They were a sweet send off at the end of the night. Altogether, our bill came out to 66.77 and our tip was around 16 dollars. That much food for two being under eighty before tip was a huge plus.

The restaurant is clean and well lit, the atmosphere was more communal, I wouldn't take an intimate date here, but it's nice for a casual Friday date night. We were given hot towels for our hands before our meal, which was a nice touch! I recommend this place to anyone who likes quality sushi. Plenty of non-sushi options for those like my boyfriend, who aren't as keen on raw fish. Overall, a wonderful Mount Leb dinner spot for when you're not feeling the t into downtown. We...

I recently went here last night with my girlfriend and her family. we were visiting from Florida to see her family. we ordered our sushi and food and made sure multiple times that the waitress KNEW that my girlfriend had a severe and deathly shellfish allergy. then when the food came again, the we asked the waitress again and she confirmed and guaranteed that this plate had no shellfish in or near it. after taking a bite out of one of the rolls we found crab to be in it, which could have been ok maybe it was imitation crab and not soaked in crab juice. so the waitress then went to the back grabbed the package was bringing it back to us when she got taken away by another employee to the back. when she finally did emerge from the back kitchen, she came over and said oh I'm sorry there is crab in that roll and it's REAL crab, which is great, but not when you are deathly allergic to shellfish!!! Then we asked for our check so that we could get out of there and she left for another few minutes and came back with a benadryl. which is great but not when we needed an epi pen and to just leave. when we tried to speak to manager in between of her trying to get our bill they simply said, oh are you going to be ok? and we said probably not but they didn't seem to care at all! then they charged us for everything eventhough we barely touched our food as it had happened almost as soon as we finally got the food. that was our last night there and it ruined the whole night and not too mention my girlfriend was throwing up all night and had to use epi pen and those aren't cheap either. so naturally we called after the fact to try and get a refund and all we could get was they would refund us for the one roll that had the crab in it!! I just think this is ridiculous! horribly handled! I have worked in the restaurant industry for twenty years and have never seen any situation remotely near this handled so horribly! I really hope you never go to this place or support a place that would put people's lives In danger and seem to not even care about it! do the right thing and do not go to this place and give them your business!!! they do not deserve it at least until they can figure out how to be decent...
