First, let me preface this by saying there is a complete understanding that many establishments are running understaffed and overworked. I get it, and I am very sorry this is how things are now. With that being said, if you are in a customer service position, you still have to do that, provide customer service. I made a reservation on Monday, 05/02/2022 for this evening, Saturday, 05/07/2022. The woman who took the reservation did advise they would not seat us unless all parties were present (totally understandable). My reservation was for 6:15pm, but I was not able to check in at the host stand until 6:30pm (we had one person run late). When approaching the man at the host stand, I could tell he was a little frazzled. I advised I had a reservation. He said, "How many, because we don't operate that way! Everyone has to be here!" Reminder, this man was the first point of contact for the restaurant, right in the front, at the host stand. There was no "hello", no "good evening," no "welcome to Antigua Real." Not to mention, my entire party WAS THERE, or I wouldn't have approached the host stand in the first place. He dismissed me, and asked the party that was standing behind me if they had everyone there. Then, he announced to all patrons waiting to be seated, "It doesn't matter if you have a reservation or not, or if we seat you, because no one here is going to be eating anytime soon!" I looked at the group of women I was with, oh, this was supposed to be a nice eving out, I was taking all the moms in my life out for Mother's Day. So, we all looked at each other, and unanimously decided to go someplace else. We didn't know where, but we weren't about to let this man yell at us any longer. Here's the kicker... if I could have given 0 stars, I would have, and we never even ate at Antigua Real. Pretty sad. Note to Antigua Real management.... you may want to put another representative at the host desk instead of this man. Even if it is busy, and the establishment is understaffed, it does not give this man the right to berate customers just for entering...
Read moreUpdate: went again today 18May2020, and let me tell you. The cornbread alone is worth the price of admission.
Okay, so we went to this place on 12/28/2019 around 2pm. We chose Antigua Real over another Mexican restaurant in town and couldn’t be happier with our experience.
The service was fast and super friendly. Our waitress gave her thoughts on this dish vs that dish when we asked.
My girlfriend got The Alamo and thought it was absolutely delicious. The cornbread it came with she described as “sweet and gooey”, that it was soft and fluffy. It really was fantastic. I would have slathered it in butter to make it perfect to me but that’s my preference.
I got the El Ranchero burrito and substituted the black beans for refried beans and no pico. The dish was amazing. Everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly.
For our drinks we both had cokes and honestly it tasted like they poured a glass bottle of Mexican coke into each glass they poured. I also got a horchata latte and it was hot and delicious. It came in a cute mug that even had a tiny little cookie floating on top, sprinkled with cinnamon. My gf thought the cinnamon was freshly garnished off the sticks.
It was great, cozy, friendly, and a family even had their Christmas there. When we were leaving the family was opening a few of their presents. I thought it was just super cute. We will definitely be going back. Oh, and the prices were incredibly reasonable. For our lunch we came in under $40, left with a box to take home and felt like they cared about...
Read moreWe were going out for BBQ, and the place was too busy. Antigua was close by so we decided to try it. WOW! This place isn't your average Mexican restaurant. The dishes are chef designed and are definitely more elegant than your average Mexican restaurant. I think this place just ruined other Mexican restaurants for me! Definitely two steps above in terms of quality.
Things I ate that I thought were special.
The hot green salsa:
Ask for it! Incredible taste, not too hot, but the flavor was 10/10. It's not your typical green salsa flavor. Smokey and smooth without that cheap vinegar taste of most green salsa. Unique and delicious.
Sopa de Camaron: Shrimp soup. OMG. 15/10. If you like grilled shrimp/ceviche type flavor, I've NEVER had shrimp soup this good. Absolutely incredible. A must order item.
The Pina Colada I had was good but I was surprised it wasn't more "dressed up" and fancy. Served in a plain 16 oz glass. Light on the booze but good flavor. Not bad in any way, but it didn't match the overall level of the high quality food.
My wife had the Sangria and she liked it.
We will definitely be back to explore more of the menu, which is huge. And they do a nice breakfast menu too.
