I was a regular at The Cup when I was a student a few years ago. I came back this weekend to visit some friends. We stopped by on Saturday. Prices were rocket high compared to other local Muncie places for food and drink. Okay, no problem. We decided to grab takeout from Yats on our way out of town on Sunday in the later afternoon. At the last second, we thought, "Hey, let's grab another drink for each us from The Cup before we leave town!"
So, we walked across the street. One of us grabbed a patio table and the other went to place our order. I ordered, and paid for, a dirty iced chai (a dirty hippie) and a frozen/blended chai. In the time I was there, I watched an employee argue with a mother who was asking for a larger cup of water for her and her very small child to share after she placed a $20+ order (they originally told her that the only free water cups were the 2 oz. ones). They finally gave it to her. When my order was ready, they made my frozen chai dirty. I said, "Oh, I'm sorry, this is not what I ordered. I actually ordered and paid for a regular frozen chai." I even had a receipt to prove it. The barista simply said, "That's not what I've got on my end. So this is what I made." I said, "Sorry, no problem. I'll just take it as is." He proceeded to say, "If you really want me to, I'll remake it." It was clearly not something he wanted to do. No worries.
I stopped in the bathroom and it was trashed. Broken/cracked toilet, hadn't been cleaned in who knows how long, and overall just gross.
I walked outside with my two drinks and sat down with my partner, who still had our to-go Yats in hand. At this point, between drinks and tips, we have spent $40+ at The Cup between Saturday and Sunday. We opened our Yats to take a bite and were IMMEDIATELY informed by an employee that we can't have ANYTHING that wasn't purchased at The Cup. We were asked to leave. I didn't even fight it. I said "Okay, no problem." We proceeded to walk BACK across the street to Yats, where, shockingly, not a single employee bothered us for using their patio while holding drinks from a nearby local restaurant as we ate the food we purchased from them. Shocking. It's almost like that's just how local business works...
TL;DR: It's overpriced, dirty, and employees are rude. Can't imagine management...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst time my wife, son, and myself went we went during breakfast, the ladies had a bit of an attitude it seemed but I could understand cuz it was early and when I graduated from BSU I didnāt wanna be up early either during that time on a Saturday morning. I brushed it off cuz they were decent. Our second trip today (morning), we had coffee from our local favorite place in Yorktown, drove into BSU to get (not that great) breakfast from the Cup, we all three went in, after telling them what we wanted (3 food items, 2 smoothies) to go outside and sit before itās too cold. The guy at the register seemed agitated, the guy cooking then came forward and told us we couldnāt have our coffees, which were new. I asked if we could go outside, he said weāre not allowed on the property with them, I said Iām about to buy 40 dollars worth of food and drinks and I canāt have this coffee? I stated, again, I couldnāt have my coffee. At that point I said cancel my entire order Iām never coming back here.
All that being said. I DO NOT do negative review often. I own a business and never want a negative review. However I also make sure my technicians NEVER talk to someone like the employees at this place do, apparently often after reading other peopleās comments which were similar. If it were my business Iād do two things, ask them to at least purchase something from the restaurant if we are going to utilize their seating outside (which is understandable to MOST PEOPLE) but telling them it canāt be on the premise is ignorant! Or second, put MASSIVE SIGNS to stop people from bringing anything or sitting in their seats and I would have never came at all. If someone came into my business with another business shirt on Iām not going to kick them out for it. Iāll try to sell them something or convert them to my business.
I hope the owner reads this and changes something with his employees and environment. I love local which is why we were going all the way there to support them....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been coming to the Cup since 2003, back when it was the MT Cup and I lived in Muncie. Now I love stopping by whenever I'm in town; it takes me right back to college and some of my favorite memories. Thus, I was really disappointed by my experience this past Friday, Oct. 16, around 10:00 a.m. Don't get me wrong: the food and coffee were fantastic. My problem was with the customer service. I was so upset by the quality of service that I waited several days to post this, so I could be calm about it. The attitude of the barista was beyond bad; it was hostile. I hadn't ordered breakfast there in years, so I had some questions about ordering a breakfast sandwich. Each question was met with impatience and a flatly rude directive that "It's on the board." She said, "It's on the board," three times during our visit: once about the sandwich itself, once about the vegetable options, and once when my friend asked about coffee syrups. I should clarify that only 4 other customers were in the entire restaurant, and no one else was waiting to order. While we still enjoyed ourselves, and the food was hot and fresh, I still regret that I tipped anything at all. I love this place and plan to keep coming back when I'm in town, but I hope the service is...
