Kleer-Vu Lunchroom — Restaurant in Murfreesboro

Everyone in Murfreesboro raves about this place, so I was quite excited to give it a try today. Unfortunately, I now have trust issues with those who had such good things to say about Kleer Vu. The service is terrible. The person serving food and cashier were both very standoffish and kind of rude. (By the way, while paying for our food, which we got to go, we noticed a roach crawling up the wall, beside their telephone.)

I order BBQ, mac n cheese, white beans and mashed potatoes. The BBQ was not “home made” by any means. I could tell is was pulled out of a container (it tasted exactly like Lloyd’s BBQ that you can get in a bucket at the grocery store and put in the microwave). The white beans were not thoroughly cooked — they were a bit “hard” actually. The mashed potatoes were quite bland. They lacked any type of salt, butter, etc. They had no taste whatsoever.

My boyfriend got fried chicken, baked apples, Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. The fried chicken was edible, to say the least. He mentioned that it tasted old. By the way — they only had dark meat. We were rudely told that they don’t have white meat. The baked apples were bland. How do you mess up baked apples??

The cornbread is a bit strange. The texture is odd.

Overall, I wouldn’t even give them a one star review if it was an option. The food was definitely not up to par. I’d eaten better at the deli at Publix. Also, i tend to shy away from places that don’t provide quality service. Be aware. Maybe this place was good back in “the day” but as of October 2018, I wouldn’t recommend anyone to eat here. COVID broke my heart. I use to love going into the Chinese buffets and covid killed most of them. I didn't go into Kleer-Vu for over two years due to covid changing my work schedule. Now after going back to my old work schedule I finally got a chance to stop by for lunch. I was so glad to see they were still open but what really broke my heart was seeing all the seating taped off. Kleer-Vu used to be a great place to run into old friends and make new ones or just hang out long enough to do lunch during the day. Now it feels like it's been kidnapped and tired up. Folks are still friendly and the food is as good as it ever was. The soul is still there too but behind glass and the customers are gone. I asked if they we're going to open the dining room back up but they said they didn't know when that might happen. They are still concerned about covid and all the workers were wearing masks. I would have given them more than 5 stars even though the dining room is closed but all Google offers is 5.

Addendum: They finally reopened the dining room. I think it's been turned over to the next generation, ...not sure. In some ways, it has become the Lacquer Black and Chrome Cadillac of soul food restaurants in middle TN. They show up in classic style but now a little more cliché.

I'm still so grateful to have them around though. Met with a friend there the other day and it just felt so good to be there again, ...just like in the good ole days. Kleer-Vu Lunchroom is a landmark and...
