We were pretty excited to try this place because of their soul food Sunday. We called ahead to find out when they closed, and they say 11pm. We arrived around 5pm. It was well before dinner time so I’m expecting food to be fresh. Again, we were too excited. We love southern soul food restaurant, and we ended up spending over $60+. We over ordered to try most of everything. We ordered:
wings: these were somewhat fresh but it was brought to the table already lukewarm. Almost cold. I was a little surprised since we waited at least 15 mins before the food came out
chitterlings plate with greens and sweet potatoes: chitterlings were brought out cold which made the grease solidify. I’ve had really great chitterlings before…and these ones were not washed properly. Turnip greens tasted like it was from a can and also cold. Sweet potatoes were ok. We asked for the food to be heated up because it was cool when it came out. They took the food and forgot about it. Didn’t bring it out until we were ready to leave. Overall not worth the $18.99 paid
fried chicken plate with Mac and cheese and beans: fried chicken was really good.l and so were the beans. They were too sweet for me but my husband and son loved them. Mac and cheese was a little bland and also lukewarm.
meatloaf: this was the only food that came out with some steam and was slightly hot. Good flavor. This one we finished eating. I had it as a side order and rang up like $8. For the portion v the price, portion was too small.
Most of the soul food menu items except the chicken and chitterlings were already sitting out on like buffet burners. Didn’t look too fresh (like maybe they were made when they opened and have been sitting out all day).
We really wished this restaurant experience and food turned out better...
Read moreFirst time going I got the catfish and okra. The catfish was good. Definitely tasted fresh, was a good temp and seasoned well.
The okra was actually really good. It was unlike other fried okra I'd ever had. It tasted like it was season with...old bay? Or crawfish boil seasoning? I'm not sure but it was great.
The portions on both were very generous. I didn't finish but my taste buds could've gone for round two with that okra. I also got the banana pudding. It tasted good but the texture wasn't appealing. It wasn't smooth and I didn't really enjoy it because of the texture. I'm just gonna guess something didn't go right during the preparation process or maybe that's the way it always is at their place. Probably something that could easily be remedied.
I did not like the tartar sauce or hot sauce packets offered.
The guy at the counter seemed like he was very in control of his environment. He did a great job of moving from working the expo window and register to answering calls for orders. He took my order quickly and was friendly.
Receiving my food took a bit longer than I would have liked, but overall I am not disappointed. I look forward to trying a couple of their...
Read moreI spent over $30 for 2 whiting fish sandwiches with fries and a 6 piece order of honey gold wings with fries. The fish was badly overcooked on both plates. Most of the fish was so overcooked that you couldn’t eat it. The fries on each of the plates were also badly overcooked. They tasted old but I believe that was due to how overcooked they were. The color of them were of dark brown, not golden as they should be. Then there were the 6 TINY and I mean tiny wings. It’s not even a big problem to me that the wing size was small but they were small and burnt. The flavor on them was the absolute worst I’ve ever eaten when it comes to wings. I know this place can do better and I hate to leave a review like this but I also want to be truthful and reflect my experience. It...
