A first time visit to Xiaos Hibachi & Sushi on Sunday…specializing in Japanese and Hibachi dishes. Met James and he was very welcoming and got me some water and a Sappora along with a frosty mug. Decided to try an appetizer and went with the Pork Gyoza (some call them pot stickers) and had them pan fried. I must say…these were some of the best pan fried Gyoza I’ve ever had. Many times if these are even slightly overcooked the whole thing becomes leathery. These were cooked just enough, and with just a slight dip in the sauce and all six were gone fast. Was having a difficult time deciding on what meal I was going with…and with the help of James went with the combo of Hibachi Shrimp & Scallops. The meal also comes with a salad that was crispy and the dressing was good, the mushroom & scallion soup was OK…a bit bland. As for the main dish…it was overflowing with shrimp and scallops cooked to perfection while the vegetables were “al dente”. The teriyaki sauce used in the dish was quite good and not overly sweet as some places tend to make the sauce. A very sweet lady by the name of May also checked on me several times and as she was making a drink behind the bar I inquired what it was and she was making a Mango Smoothie…and poured me a glass to sample…DELICIOUS!!! I would drink this as a smoothie or maybe with a bit of rum???
Overall…this place is solid providing good food and very friendly service. Saw a couple of Hibachi parties going on…very entertaining. While I have only tried one thing so far, I will come back to try their other dishes and maybe bring my sushi loving friends to assess the sushi side...
Read moreI go here a couple of times a month if I'm in the area. The food has always been phenomenal! But my last visit left something to be desired.. The waitress was extremely rude, and she looked at me like I was ruining her day. I came in slightly after the lunch rush was over. When she took my order, I asked her to have the chef cook my veggies longer than normal, which they've always done with zero problems. I also pointed out that I have an iodine allergy, which means my food cannot come into contact with sprimp. They have to know that from the time you order, so the chef can get his trays put together accordingly. She told the chef none of it. The people seated with me at the grill had ordered shrimp and when the chef came out, there was shrimp on top of my chicken, and since I didn't really feel like having my throat close off that day, I had to say something and he asked why I hadn't told the waitress.. Except that I had. She relayed none of the special instructions, and she never even came back to give me a refill. The next time I saw her was when she threw the ticket at me. I guess she figured that since I was alone, I wouldn't tip well. I always tip well for good service, so that was her loss. ( I still tipped her, just not as well as I would have for good service, I'm not a monster!) I would still recommend this restaurant, as this type of service hasn't been the standard for...
Read moreA must try! I do not normally write reviews, good or bad, but I am compelled to do so after dinner tonight. First, I had lunch here a couple of weeks ago. It was excellent and it was a great value. The owner came over and chatted with us afterwards to see how our experience was. Not only was the food good but he was freindly and showed how much he genuinely cared about his guests experience. This goes a long way in my book having been to so many of the chain restaurants in town that have mediocre food (at best) with fair service (again at best.) I decided to try out the hibachi grill for dinner and it was nothing less than excellent. Filet mignon, sea scallops, lobster tail, and shrimp were all awesome quality and cooked perfectly. Again the owner Zheng, and who I assume is his wife (Emei), came over to the table before our meal and again after the meal to see what our experience was like. They genuinely care...they care about what they do....this restaurant is their baby.....and I will be going back to support what they’re doing. I encourage anyone reading this to do so as well! I wish the Boro had more restaurants and more restaurant owners...
