Last fall when visiting my father in Menifee we went to a restaurant in the same Shopping Center and as we were coming to our car an older couple was coming out of Kan Zaman, and could not stop talking about how amazing the food was, particularly the lamb shanks! So when I visited my father yesterday, he was very keen on trying this restaurant and we were not disappointed!
Our waiter, Kevin, was perfect. He was friendly and compassionate, for example I saw him help an older lady out at the door, who clearly was struggling with walking. I would give a hundred stars for service if that option were available!
Next, the food was absolutely delicious! Dad wanted to try an appetizer of hummus, so he settled on the green hummus which was parsley. It came with an olive tapenade and minced mild jalapeno, both of which you could add to the hummus as you wish.
The bread that came with the hummus was some of the best we've ever had! I don't know if it's specifically Jordanian or what it is, but it was thicker and fluffier than a pita or naan, and absolutely decadent!
For his main course, dad chose the lamb shawarma plate, and he said it was the best lamb he had tasted! I had the lamb shank with garlic and potatoes, and it was a winner! Mind you, we are Italian and from a region where we do eat a lot of lamb, so we're very picky about lamb and a lot of people don't get it right. This restaurant got both of our lamb dishes right! They were delicious!
As for the atmosphere, it also was perfect! The restaurant was meticulously clean, with an open kitchen. The decor was very attractive and gave hints of the Middle East without being over the top. Gorgeous and fun Moroccan type lamps throughout the restaurant, and the theme is carried over with the candle holders on the tables, and even the lighting in...
Read moreMy nephew just bought a home in Murrieta and he and his wife have been wanting to take us here. We LOVE Mediterranean food so we came up from San Diego for a nice family dinner here at Kan Zaman. Once you walk in, you feel like you're somewhere in the Mediterranean in a family's home. The smells caught my nose immediately and I was super excited for the feast that was about to come! We were greeted by Maggie. My nephew and his wife are regulars and were welcomed with such warm hospitality. Maggie's attention to detail and knowledge of the menu helped us in choosing our dinners. Our food came out and was served to us by the most courteous wait staff. The food was 5/5. Everything we got was DELICIOUS. To start we ordered Tabouleh, the Hummus and Babaganush that came with the most pillowy soft pita bread I have ever tasted in my life! We added the diced jalapeños and olives that came with the pita bread to every bite. For dinners we had the Chicken Barg Kabob, Guvec Stew, Sahara Beef (the meat melted in our mouths it was extremely tender and delicious), Beef Shawarma, Chicken Shawarma, and Beef Edna Kabob. The owner of the restaurant makes sure to greet every table and is also the busboy, cashier, and dishwasher! He is a very kind and gracious man. We ended the meal with the most amazing Baklava Cheesecake. This my friends was the icing on the cake for me! This is hands down my favorite restaurant to eat at in Murrieta! If you are in the area definitely make a point to eat here! Everyone dug into their plates before I could take pictures but I was able to take a photo of my plate and our delicious dessert! Make sure you make...
Read moreBefore I get into my experience, I want to mention that I don't give out five stars easily or often. That said...
I entered with my family, my wife and two sons, expecting to sit down and dine in. However, the boys didn't feel like a sit down meal, so we ended up ordering for take-out. I think our actions may have confused the employees a bit, but they just rolled with it and offered us a table to sit at while we decided what to order and as a place for us to wait for our to-go order. To our pleasant surprise, they brought out water and chilled glasses for us while we waited.
While waiting, we took in the atmosphere around us. I loved the decor, from wall-to-wall and floor to ceiling. The music was pleasant for a restaurant in both sound and volume, neither distracting nor too loud.
Our wait was about 15 minutes, just as the gentleman had told us it would be. All-in-all, that was a nice experience, and I haven't even gotten to the food yet.
My wife and older son ordered the lamb shawarma plate, my younger son got the vegetarian spaghetti, and I decided that if I was really going to try the place out, I was going all-in. I ordered the eggplant mussaka with lamb shank. The boys seemed to love they're choices, and my wife did as well. However, what I really want to talk about is the eggplant mussaka. It was A-MAZ-ING!!! I had my wife taste it and she in full agreement. The flavors were perfect, and the lamb, so tender I didn't need the knife I brought to the table with me.
If you read reviews, and believe the opinions of others, maybe I'll see you there; because, I will DEFINITELY be back for more of this food!!! (And...
