I had rented the room above the restaurant for my daughters' graduation. I have rented this room before in the past for a birthday party - thought it was amazing with having a waiter and drink/bar tender, so we didn't have to go downstairs for much.
They said they would call the beginning of May to discuss catering options. I had to call a few times at a few different times to finally get in touch with someone about catering, which was the week before the event. It was fine, we got it figured out. Would have been nice to talk to someone at the beginning of the month to digest the price of what it was.
So, when I booked this room again, I thought that we would have the same service. I was hoping to not have to do much other than greeting people that came to congratulate the grad, I was looking for an easy evening since I had recently lost both my parents, I wanted simple. Not really what happened. I was informed for all drinks we would have to go downstairs, (which is fine) but when I ordered the pitchers of pop, it took roughly 30 minutes to receive. I ordered a nacho bar (which I feel like overpriced to have to pay per person, for a catering option) I had to multiple times go to the kitchen and ask for refill on chips or silverware. The drinks were never refilled; I had to leave the party to go ask for refills on those. I didn't really see a waiter come up once unless I went downstairs to find someone or ask someone in the kitchen for something. When I asked to have drinks refill again - I also asked for nachos for at least 20 more people, they said it would take about 20 minutes to get that up to us - I think it was about 35 minutes. Only got meat. Asked for refill for the chips they said they would bring them up soon, never received a refill on chips before we had left, so there was so much meat and cheese left over, because people had tired of waiting for chips. I had to pay an 18% automatic gratuity, when paying an additional tip was asked for.
I feel like if an establishment is going to offer a certain service - catering - then there should at least be a person with that party to help keep an eye on things. I didn't really enjoy myself at all, I didn't eat any of the food since we had to keep asking for refill on things, I wanted to make sure the guest had enough to eat. If there would have been waiter, bartender/drink person staffed with us just two people, I can assure they probably would have made bank on tips alone just being up there serving. Thankfully we had plenty of dessert - that we brought in, people had enough dessert to go around.
Probably the last time we will be going there for anything. Which is sad since there isn't much diversity in food in Muscatine.
The room upstairs is a decent size for holding a party like graduation or birthday, which is nice, other than that the room could use a bit of a touch up - a bit outdated looking, 90's drinking cup carpet on the wall in the back. Bathrooms upstairs, no doors on the stalls in the women's, bucket under the urinal in the men's rooms. Guess there is a leak, one guy said it's been a few years since he had been up there and said it was there then too.
I paid the whole bill (which could help towards some updates upstairs, for what I paid for room and food once all said and done), I once wasn't rude at all, very unimpressed with the...
Read moreRead the other online reviews and rating of 4.8 out of 5, so wanted to try this restaurant while passing through. Terrible experience and not sure where the 4.8 came from. We got there around 12:30 pm and the place was busy but not packed with numerous open tables. Seated ourselves per the sign at the door. Waited for our server, she took our drink order and waited long enough for our drinks to arrive that we knew what we wanted to order. Got the loaded tater tots for an appetizer, 2 bacon cheeseburgers and a breaded tenderloin with onion rings. We then had to wait 30 minutes (!) for the app to come out. To it's credit it was hot and tasty. We then waited ANOTHER 15+ minutes for our meal. When it arrived... cold. Burgers cold, fries cold, onion rings stone cold. My family said the burgers were tasty and "would have been good if they were hot". I urged them to send the cold burgers back, but we had already been in the place so long, we hated to waste even more time waiting for HOT food. We wasted 90 minutes in the place trying to eat a meal and it came cold and with a $41 bill. Either we had the slowest, inept server on the planet or the kitchen and cooking staff was too small for the seating area (which is what my husband thinks). Terrible, terrible meal. When asked how our meal was by the server, we said cold and were given a bowl of onion rings (hot this time) as an apology, but by this time, I just wanted to leave. It was one meal out of my life, so I'm going to get over it, but we won't in all likelihood be back. Wonder if the reviews on here were written by family/friends because they did not in any way reflect our experience. The only reason I gave 1 star was that the "flavor" of the meal was good even if the temperature was no where near where safely handled...
Read moreent there this afternoon to enjoy lunch . My boyfriend and I are both from out of town and we looked at the menu before going since we aren’t familiar with the area. We walk in - seat yourself . Grab a couple drink menus from the table and proceed to look over the menu . Much to our surprise , numerous items that we had our eyes on were crossed out with a black marker on the menu (tacky). The table next to us got the run down too as a few items they wanted were no longer available. Disappointed , we went ahead and ordered. I asked for steam veggies - which they either no longer have or were out of. At this point I couldn’t keep up with what was in and what was out. It wasn’t crossed out or anything. You’re SOL if you’re wanting a healthy side option that’s not a salad. My boyfriend ordered a sandwich which she rang in only to come out a few minutes later- surprise ! They are out of that too. Those drink menus that we grabbed - the “manager” made her way around to grab them up because they are “changing “ them . Odd. Why wouldn’t they do that prior to opening ? My boyfriend’s entree came out - we looked at each other like where’s the rest ? So I started a timer on my phone. 4 minutes later - my salad. 9.5 minutes in - the rest of the order ( burger with no side ) missing bacon . Sent it back. Finally everything was there. Why would they deliver 1 item and just make the other guest wait? I’ve never been to a restaurant that has done this before . Not only that , I ordered a burger and a salad . The waitress was sweet - the food was good . She took $5 off the bill- which was nice and all but I’m not sure what this restaurant is doing ? Why did the manager never come out ? Why don’t they update their website, Facebook page , menus , etc prior to guests arriving and...
