I'd just come from the Doctor's office after fasting for what seemed like an eternity. I was famished! Culver's was within eyeshot so we stopped! We got there right before lunch so the wait was minimal. I ordered a mushroom and swiss which, of course, was marvelous. My only complaint was that they could have been a bit more generous with the gravy. I know to ask next time! My Dad, who was my chauffeur that day, had the "American.." something or other. It smelled amazing! It was basically a patty melt. The rye bread was grilled perfectly and the onions looked sautéed to the right texture. The fries were the standard crinkle cut you can get anywhere else in town! Really we were there to get our frozen custard fix. The flavor of the day was Oreo cookie. Now this wasn't just any Oreo custard. Most of the time you find the cookies submersed in vanilla. Here it was either a very light chocolate or, possibly, a mocha... I couldn't distinguish which, but it was right up there with the best. I applaud this location's hiring practices. Behind the counter was an obviously retired woman. And she was a character! She had herself propped on one elbow against the cash register with her chin in her hand. You know how everyone has that one Grandma who's always trying to get you to eat? That was her! She was making suggestions and encouraging you to eat more. Her tone was great... just a little snarky and sarcastic... not enough to offend anyone! Some construction looking guys came in while we were eating and they just "ate it up"! My impression was that they'd been there before. There was also two young me who appeared to be "challenged". The two of them were great with the customer service and diligent with their cleaning tasks. I...
Read moreThis used to be the Culver's my family, friends, and myself would go to for the better part of a decade. Though over the past year or two the quality of service and food seemed to have dropped drastically for me to want to return.
First I'll talk about service. I'll say that I believe there are a lot of very friendly workers at this location, but I have gotten many cold or indifferent interactions with a handful of the staff, including managers. The past few times I went to this location they made it feel like me ordering food was a burden on them. I have also had to correct on many occasions the order as they were typing it in. Sometimes even as far as not even being the same type of food. It also seems to be an issue to differentiate between TO GO and FOR HERE, as I've had that mixed up the past half dozen or so times I went to this location.
Now for the food. I absolutely love Culver's food, just not from this location. The past two shakes I ordered both had issues. One had some type of rubber or plastic in it, which after showing it to them I got a free small ice cream. The following time I had some sort of food in my shake, looked like a soggy uncooked fry. Was told they would look into it then I got completely ignored about the issue. I often take my food to go, but as I said above that seems to be an issue to distinguish as well. I've had different types of burgers, completely different types of food items, etc all mixed up on me probably over half of the times that I have gone over the past year.
To me this location is not worth the cold welcome and the constant issues with orders. I have since switched over to hwy 100 and have had zero...
Read moreFamily loves Culver's and this location is very convenient, so we've been here many times over the past (20?) years. I'll say this: never got an order wrong. In fact, none of the 3 locations we go to most have done so. Very efficient, never seem understaffed and always a smile.
Food - hey, it's Culver's- it's a step up from "the usual places." Burgers are too notch, love that mushroom/Swiss is always an option and pot roast sandwich is a unique menu item. Kiddo loves them, too. Always gets something with chicken, and for many years as a competitive swimmer Culver's (and Noodles) were the big reward after a great meet. One natatoium in SE Wisconsin gave top performers free meal tickets and these were a cherished item! Strangely, maybe, we're not big on cheese curds (yes, I'm a lifelong Wisconsin boy) but they are good and a near legend. Finally, the custard. Culver's nails it. I put them #2 behind Kopp's. We don't get it every time, it's a treat. My family members stick with chocolate and vanilla, but I mix it up and never been disappointed. Good old sundaes and banana splits, as well as the concrete shakes, again, fantastic.
I am disappointed the pineapple smoothie disappeared from the menu years ago. It was a supply issue at first but still has not returned. Get created and use crushed pineapple & vanilla.
All in all, Culver's IS Wisconsin. Right there with Kwik Trip, Summerdest, Badgers, Bucks, Brewers and Packers. I'm a dedicated customer and always will be.
HIGHLY recommended! And people, don't drop 1-2 star reviews on one bad experience. In fact, people reading, ignore those. Something disappoints? Go back. It won't...
