We chose this restaurant for dinner because of the good reviews. However, it did not live up to those reviews at all.
Perhaps we should have reconsidered when we drive up and saw that it appeared to be using the name "The Shack" with a smaller sign indicating "Baymont Seafood." The menus still said "Baymont." They seem to be having an identity crisis. The atmosphere was more drugstore cowboy than rustic fish shack, which is what I think they are going for.
Service was slow, and our server seemed very tentative. We had to repeat everything item we ordered because he would ask us to repeat each thing before he would write it down. It was not loud, there was no crowd, and we looked directly at him as we spoke.
My oysters were subpar. They had the strong taste and smell of fish that has been held in the refrigerator for a few days after thawing. My spouse said Red Lobster's fried shrimp is better than what he got here.
What they did get right was the catfish. My husband's combo plate had 3 large filets, and they were prepared well. The grilled vegetables were very good. And I was pleased to see that the fried foods were well-drained and not all greasy.
The egg roll appetizer consisted of 3 giant egg rolls that had a salty exterior, which I rather liked, but they were served with packets of very blah sweet and sour sauce.
The prices are good, and you get a lot of food for your money. But quantity does not equal quality, and sacrificing quality...
Read moreFood was ok. Had the crawfish etouffee. Never seen it a mustard yellow color. Also had the blackened red snapper and six shrimp. The shrimp were about 16/20's. The snapper was just a loin, not a fillet. They left the bloodline on it. I liked that the vegetables were still a bright color not over cooked and grey ( army green color ). I liked my vegetables a little less undercooked with a crisp. The rice was ok. Needed a bit more seasoning but edible. Overall I give them an A for effort. They also need to add different drinks to the menu. something natural and refreshing.and they also need to get rid of the dead flies on the window.. I would consider returning next time I'm in town to try something else on their menu. The pecan pie would be better if it was homemade and they should offer another fried fish other than catfish. Cod...
Read moreSo I ordered crawfish gumbo & crab cakes & neither one was good. The crab cakes I should've known they would be frozen & taste like frozen food & not freshly made but I thought I would give them a try since the reviews were so good but anyway this was my 1st time trying crawfish gumbo & I wish I had taken pics but ive never seen gumbo thin like water with 2 pieces of okra, had celery chunks & lots of crawfish but it didn't taste like seafood neither. I finally gave up on it because even the crackers were stale. I couldn't afford the almost $30 loss but I had to just take it. Reply: instead of giving attitude & tryna tell me what I should've done maybe you just apologize & do better because writing my honest experience is what...
