Some of the reviews for this place are ridiculous. People complaining about not finding chile rellenos or free chips or "Hispanic food" (which isn't a thing). The sign and the menu tell you exactly what this place is: "Mexican Street Tacos," "Fire & Grill". That means that's how the food is cooked--on a grill or a stovetop. You can't make rellenos without a fryer or enchiladas without an oven and neither is made will grilled meats, which is what a street taco restaurant is based on.
One person said the salsa wasn't spicy enough. Obviously, they didn't try more than one of at least three that are available--each spicier than the smoky roasted tomato salsa that comes with the chips. And if you tried those chips, you'd see that they aren't the cheap, thin, bagged "restaurant style" chips that you get for free at some sit-down restaurants--they're authentic fried corn tortilla chips served on a giant tray with a bowl of salsa, queso blanco, pico de gallo, or guacamole. You don't get that for free anywhere--and shouldn't.
What they do serve is really good street tacos with a choice of delicious grilled meats--asada, pastor, pollo, carnitas, lengua, etc--on corn or flour tortillas. The pastor and lengua were my favorites. They're served traditionally with onions, cilantro, lime, radish slices, and grilled onions & peppers. You get two spicy salsas with those in addition to the milder roasted tomato salsa. The taco plates come with charro beans that are soft and flavorful. You can also get sides of rice, refried beans, vegetables, or several other options. They also serve these meats as burritos, quesadillas, tortas, gorditas, salads, bowls, or on a fajita plate. They also have some combo meals or a la carte items to choose from.
The only complaint I might have is that the charro beans could be served a little hotter and the queso blanco could stand to be thinned out a little with more milk or liquid so it doesn't thicken as quickly. Otherwise, everything here was well-done, delicious, and reasonably priced. Will return as often as...
Read moreFood: Their carne asada salad was so great. They added some other vegetables I would not have thought that it would go with it, but it was definitely delicious to eat. Chips with queso is a MUST have! Horchata, tacos, pretty much anything you order is going to be worth trying! The cost is incredibly worth it! It costs a LOT MORE to eat at Taco bell and it's not authentic Mexican food!
Service: Great customer service, patient as you take time to choose, & treat you kindly with a smile. We are visiting family in town & wish we had one in Pensacola, FL. When you order to go, they box it up so you can take home to share!
Atmosphere: Clean, spacious, & when dining in, they will bring your food to you. (It was not crowded when we went the first time yesterday. )
Read moreI so wanted to like this place. We watched it being built with great anticipation. No chili relleno on the menu was a bad sign. Then, even though I carefully explained to two different members of the apathetic staff what I wanted on my burrito, what I received was not even close. Plus, it was grilled and very greasy. They offered to remake it, but I don't believe in wasting food, and I didn't have time, so I refused. No limes with my wife's street tacos. No cheese that was ordered. I asked for cheese, expecting queso fresco, but got cheddar along with the limes. On the up side, the refried beans were terrific, having a slightly smokey flavor. The sauces were good, and the tortillas were good. Service was slow when they had only 4 tables full. Might give them another chance. The beans...
