El Chimal Bakery — Restaurant in Nacogdoches

My friends and I discovered el chimal after cross country practice one Sunday morning. We had all just ran a long run that morning and we were craving some sweet breakfast foods. We saw that the bakery was now open and went inside to check it out. We were surprised to find that there were no donuts that we were used to seeing so we left, not knowing what we were missing. A couple of days later we had a sweet tooth and decided to go back to the bakery and try some baked goods. We tried a little bit of everything and now it's safe to say we love this bakery! My personal favorite is the Pan Dulce or the tres leches cake. And don't be fooled just because the donuts aren't covered in glaze or chocolate does not mean they aren't good because they are sooo good. Very good bakery that makes very creative variations of Mexican sweet bread not seen in other Mexican bakeries. I've been to other bakeries in cities like Austin and Houston and this to me is one of the good ones for this area. The bread is also moist, not dry like some places. The tres leches cake was excellent, although I wish they had other varieties like strawbery and cinnamon. Nevertheless, I will return for more mexican sweet bread, tres leches cake, and cookies in the future.
