Happy's Donut Tree — Restaurant in Napa

There are two donut bakeries in napa valley, Buttercream and Happy's Donut Tree. While Buttercream may be more well known it is not the better bakery. Happy's Donut Tree donuts are definitely 5 stars in my book, the donuts are fluffy and the outer layer of dough is crisp and the glazes are not too sweet. If you dislike the sickeningly sweet donuts of Raley's, Safeway, and to a lesser extent Buttercream, then you might enjoy the donuts served here. They also serve unique buttermilk donuts which look like biscuits covered in glaze but taste like a crunchy donut but with much more fluff inside the crunch than an old fashioned donut.

However there are some downsides to Happy's Donut Tree. First of all the bakery only accepts cash payments, which is a big pain if you have switched to mainly electronic payments like me. While I have not tried their basic coffee I had the displeasure of purchasing their "Cappuccino" in the past. The Cappuccino was made more like a mocha, except they used automated coffee /hot chocolate dispenser to make it. The abomination was made by dispensing equal parts basic coffee and hot chocolate. It tasted like ass.

If they worked on making their donut shop's coffee better, and maybe made it more of a cafe, it would be a definite 5...

Best donuts in Napa and some of the best I've ever had anywhere, period. Don't go here looking for trendy, over-the-top creations like triple Oreo fudgeberry monstrosity or whatever. These are classic donuts - just a good variety of old-fashioned styles done extremely well, baked to perfection with care. I've both dropped in for a couple of donuts for myself to satisfy a craving (which they most certainly will) and stopped by before work on several occasions to pick up a couple dozen to share. The quality is so consistent, and the pricing is super fair (barely more than chain shops). The only drawback is the cash-only policy, but they're clear about that, so I can't consider that a true negative. I'm sure it's part of what keeps their prices so low. Donuts were fresh and yummy. Location was a little hard to find parking. You would be better off parking at the Chevron gas station and walking through the parking lot to the store. The lady was very nice she even threw in 3 extra donut holes without my knowledge. That was sweet of her. They only take cash so get your dollars out. Place was clean and donuts make everyone happy. I needed a little pick me up before meeting my #notary client to do a #debtsettlement signing. If I am ever in #napa again I will stop by there to get more donuts.
