So I went to this place and they told me it was 1.5 hours wait. So we decided to wait. After 1 hour and 10 minutes wait I decided to call to check in maybe things were moving faster. The girl that picked up the phone called asked for my name and told them my name and she said it is about 20-30 minutes. I said that’s fine even though 30 minutes would go over the 1.5 wait they said it would be. So after 25 minutes I went inside to check and the hostess advises me that it will be another 40 minutes. I asked her what do you mean I called 25 minutes ago and I was told 20 to 30 minutes that’s why I came in. And I showed her my call log to show when I called and when I came back in. She didn’t know what to say and came up with lame excuse that the kitchen had an issue and we stopped seating for one hour. That was such a lie because people that were outside and ahead of us waiting were being seated. So she was lying and if kitchen was having a problem and you stopped seating people why wouldn’t you call people and informing them of this issue. They never called me and not only they didn’t call me but they didn’t tell me of this lie in the phone when I called to check where they were with the wait. To lie like that in front of my face when I saw people who seating who checked in before me and there was never a delay. I didn’t try the food so I can talk about the food but the service is garbage and they lie. This place is shady and for sure this place can’t handle high volume traffic so they come up with lies about kitchen having issues when there really isn’t an issue. Imagine what other stuff they lie about or what other shady stuff they do....
Read moreA breakfast restaurant with a special touch that lives up to the name.
Pros: -lives up to its name by having that harbor feel while you eat eggs (If you ordered eggs that is) -good food (8.7/10) -great variety of food with enough options to satisfy everyone but not too much that it feels like a scavenger hunt -quiet dinning room, nothing too loud (excluding young kids in this evaluation as what can you expect from them), allowing for a comfortable conversation between yourself and others
Cons: -it's downtown naperville (which brings about issues with finding a parking spot usually not very close by) although also a plus as you can get some exercise! -shared building so there's more people in the immediate area than inside the restaurant so it will feel a bit cramped till you sit down -busy at times
Overall: It's a nice cozy place with a lot to offer. It gives you that harbor feeling without over doing it, and the food is good. If a wait is your concern, early to rise or have a late breakfast (your choice!). The menu size is just perfect, you won't feel pressured into looking at every option on a 12 volume menu, they keep it simple and sweet! Definitely try the eggs (a scrambler or skillet is always a good choice), and when you're done and walking back to your car which unfortunately was parked a few blocks away, take the opportunity to poke your head in the countless shops down there! Little tip, the tea shop is really cool! (I'll let you explore for it on your own though, that's...
Read moreWe were so disappointed to see that Freddy (short for Alfredo), who we previously had poor experiences with is still working with this company. Unfortunately, nothing has changed with his service since the last time. He is incredibly slow, especially during the ordering process — something we imagine would be smoother given that many Egg Harbor guests are regulars and already familiar with the menu.
Once our food arrived (which was excellent — more on that later), we waited nearly 10 minutes without any silverware or napkins. My husband had to go up front to ask for them, and while someone said they’d bring them, they never did. He then found Freddy in the back and was met with a dismissive shrug and a vague, “I’ll be with you when I can.” My husband had to explicitly say we needed silverware now — only then did Freddy hand it over.
He never once checked on us for drink refills, and we had to flag him down just to get the check. Honestly, I don’t understand how this level of service is acceptable at a place like Egg Harbor.
Now, to be fair: the food was superb. The skillet and Sam’s Swedish Pancakes were cooked to perfection. Despite the steadily increasing prices over the years, the quality remains top-notch and makes Egg Harbor our favorite breakfast spot in the area.
But service matters, and Freddy’s continues to fall far below even basic expectations. As much as we love the food, I’m not sure we’ll return — the risk of ending up in his section again just doesn’t...
