I typically never post any review unless it is 5 or 1 stars, I guess you can say I have a "pass" or "fail" mentally.... here is my experience from tonight and how I've developed my review: They do not take reservations the day of for two people; we gave a 3 hour window prior to arriving. Upon arriving, we knew there was going to be a wait, so we sat at the bar for a drink. After the estimated time (20 mins), we were told it's likely another 25 mins for a table. That was fine. We would have eaten at the bar if the chairs had 1/2 backs. The spicy margarita was good initially but was a challenge to finish on an empty stomach. Upon finally sitting at the table, we ordered more drinks and an appetizer. This was obviously portioned for a child. I've never paid $14 for 5 table spoons of guacamole. As small as that tri of guacamole and corn is, we even run out of chips. Also, this is the only Mexican "restaurant" I've ever been that did not provide salsa and chips. One must pay $9 for salsa, should they want it. After waiting so long for a table, I had to use the washroom. There is a single stall/room (lockable) for the guys and a multiple use room for the ladies. The sink at the guys has two separate spouts; one for hot and one for cold - like you might see in Britain... but the facuits are about 18" apart, so good luck with not burning your hand or freezing it. And I'm sure not going to plug up the sink to get normal tempered water. Also, no papertowels were available to dry hands, so you get to delay the next guy in line even further. The tacos are REALLY SMALL, like they should be on the kids' menu. The street tacos they provide are good but definitely not worth the cost. If you came for dinner and did not want tacos, you are SOL, because that's the only option. The bill arrives, and they decided to generously give themselves a 3% "optional" fee. I'm not sure what it is for, maybe to fund the deficiency noted above, but we definitely needed that removed. The only thing that impressed me was how clean the place was, no dust or anything on the tall ceiling with all the string decorations. In closing, I will not be going back, but I'm glad to see others have...
Read moreNot a fan - and I LOVE Bien Trucha. I guess our night started out, off. I made the reservation online requesting a high chair. I assume MOST people think of a high chair as something small children sit in. When they asked me to confirm my reservation, no one mentioned that they do not have high chairs. When we arrived, the hostess said "table for 4 with a high top, right?" I said "No, I am sorry, we cannot have a high top table as it wouldn't work well with a high chair." She said "Oh, yes, we saw you asked for a high chair but we thought you meant a high top table." I am sorry but what type people work here where they confuse a high top table with a high chair? They only were able to seat us outside (with the 90% humidity) but we agreed anyway, even though it began drizzling. The food overall, was ok. We enjoyed the guac of the day (with watermelon), the corn and rice - all 3 items we absolutely love from Bien Trucha. I was really looking forward to their drinks because again, Bien Trucha's drinks are delicious, no mixers, all fresh ingredients. The drinks were so strong, it was hard to enjoy them. I know you may laugh at that because people probably prefer strong drinks as I do as well, but they even were too strong for my liking. Especially since the ingredients they use are of high quality, you want to be able to taste them. A new bartender I presume. Regarding the tacos, I don't know. Maybe this place is just too modern for me. I am very open with trying new things, I pretty much eat almost anything and I absolutely love Mexican food. But I feel like the ingredients they put on them (or at least the tacos we tried) weren't what you would find on a taco - pumpkin seeds on a shrimp taco? The barbacoa tacos were ok as well. Perhaps I built this place up so much in my head since I love Bien Trucha, that I was disappointed. It stinks because we live in Naperville and this location is obviously closer. However, we'll still be...
Read moreMy family went to Quiubo for lunch on Cinco de Mayo. It has a very nice decor and outdoor patio. We were a party of 4 and we were seated right away (once 3/4s of our party was there).
They offer a special guac and a market price fish dish that rotates every day. The food is small plates and you are expected to share with the table.
We ordered: Free: chips and a bean dip when seated Apps: Guacamole tradicional, - Second plate: Quesadilla (2 pieces), Side: esquites (corn). It's on the sweeter side Tacos: bientrucha taco & Pescado taco Dessert: Churro- This was so good. It was almost like a donut with a caramel sauce and ice cream on top.
We also asked for a spicy sauce and the server gave us the seranno salsa, normally served with the pork belly tacos (50 cents extra). The items were a "new" take on mexican food.
Drinks: We ordered "Ahuacatl" ( avocado & lime), Sangria, & Mangoneada, I thought the ahuacatl was my favorite. The amngoneada was really thick and the Tajin spicy only rimmed the outside of the cup.
We would definitely order the Ahuacatl, seranno salsa (so good), and the churros again.
Service: Our server was attentive and helpful. However, since this is a tapas style restaurant there would be multiple plates coming to our table, but the different server dropping off food would not take our finished plates, unless asked.
Accessibility: There are no steps to enter with a two non-automatic doors at the entrance.
Seating: I did not notice any wheelchair specific seating. There's about 50% high seating and 50% booth/standard height tables. The restaurant is crowded, but still adequate space between tables.
Noise: The restaurant was very loud.
Light: We went at lunch and there was lots of natural lighting. Not sure about lighting in the evening.
Bathroom: The bathroom has a accessible stall and...
