Sparrow Cafe is a jewel nestled in a beautiful river front location in Naperville. I am a repeat customer and a big fan of Sparrow because of its tasty coffee and a delightful, myriad arrays of both savory and sweet food selections; and, equally captivating is Sparrow's prime location and its communal seating arrangement which adds to the overall warmth. That said, I have been struggling with GI issues post-covid and has been very cautious in my pick of foods and drinks and discounting the ones that are notorious in aggravating symptoms. However, I didn't think twice when it comes to hands down satisfying my long held cravings for tall cup of creamy latte because Sparrow's coffee is never too bitter nor too acidic and it tends to exhibit all the right notes in its flavor profile. What can I say but bada (coffee bean) bada boom! Of course, I can't just have the latte alone after travelling for over an hour from the Indiana border to arrive at Sparrow Cafe so tried their avocado toast and, man oh man, I have never tasted anything so scrumptious that the flavors just burst in my mouth; I mean it's hard to argue with the texture of nicely spiced avocado layered with cheese on top of a thick bread served with a side of microgreens. Say No More. My visit to Sparrow is never complete until I indulged in the magic of their macarons. Seriously, I will never pass on a macaron opportunity when presented to me but the ones at Sparrow stand out above the rest in terms of complexity and depth: crunchy, nutty and soft on the outside paired with the oh-so richly flavored tangy fillings in the inside. Their macarons come in many different flavors which are mind boggling to choose from. It's true. I saved the best for last when I dug into Sparrow's samoa cake which is shaped like a donut topped with coconut and ingeniously encapsulated with chocolate filling that melts in the mouth with the perfect level of sweetness. I am a queen of sweets but I have never tasted anything even close like it before. This is a high quality place all around from the location, ambience to the foods and drinks and service; and oh no, not these guys, they are nothing short of extraordinary. Sparrow Cafe always wins my vote every...
Read moreFinding Sparrow Coffee has allowed me to find one of my favorite coffee shops that not only provide a relaxing, chill, welcoming atmosphere, but also provides baked goods alongside their top quality coffee. Great to find baristas that have high-end care for not only their coffee and other beverages, but their service as well.
Sparrow is a very welcoming place that is open from 6am-6pm everyday, which is pretty shocking due to most coffee shops closing in the early afternoon, so this was a great surprise when I first found out about them!
They also have tables that have outlets attached, which is a great feature due to people bringing in their laptops or other devices that require charging for their extended stays.
Not to mention they have a menu for food items, which I never ordered, but have been told is quite good. Only “issue” would be the price can be $10+.
Only critiques I would add are the seating, which can be kinda small and claustrophobic during busy hours (specifically during Saturday and Sunday mornings) as well as whether the coffee comes in their ceramic/glass cups vs their paper to-go cups.
For the past year, I have spent hours either studying, reading, or having conversations with locals, but it always seems like a guessing game if my coffee will be in a ceramic/glass cup or a paper cup when I order a 10 oz and stay indoors. If I’m staying in, I love sipping out of a ceramic/glass cup as you can see their amazing milk art, shows care with their product with their customer, and to feel welcomed to be a part of their discourse. Whereas, unless I plan to leave the establishment, a paper cup feels sort of rushed or uninviting. It seems as though I have to ask for my order to be in a ceramic/glass cup, which can be awkward as I’ve been told if I get the 10 oz and is “for here” it will, but that hasn’t always been the case.
Overall, Sparrow provides high-end coffee, smoothies, teas, and baked goods in an environment that you can relax, read a book, study, go on a date, have an interview, catch up with a friend, or just...
Read moreWhat a disappointment. Took my best friend(coffee shops owner) from Europe to this place ensuring him it's the best from what I heard. The place looks nice and has a pro coffee feel, but it wasn't our lucky evening or something, because the experience was one of th worst i had. After ordering 2 espressos in ceramic cup to stay in and enjoy it,the wait was about 10 minutes before getting first shot, there was none else in the front of us,the baristas were talking to each other and other employees, while we stayed there with some previous ordering customers complaining, that there are already waiting 15 minutes for late and tea....well,after waiting another 5 minutes for one of the baristas to make my shot,I got my espresso in the paper cup and slammed on the countertop in the front of me,I politely said that I ask for ceramics,so after eyes roll, the guy grabbed cold ceramic cup and pour the shot form the paper cup to it and gave it to me. I couldn't believe my eyes. After proper weight of the beans, good grind, proper tamp and using naked portafilter,i got drip coffee look like espresso shot. I asked if he could redo my shot and second barista asked me why and what's my problem. I said that there is no crema and the shot is cold, and that why is he asking me obvious if he is barista. With long face he redid the shot for me in the cup, without preheating it, but I just lost the excitement for it. Without any,I'm sorry or is this one to your liking,he just put it in the front of me and walk away. Well for me being 15 years barista with training in Italy and USA, even the place as sparrow coffee roasters was big disappointment. The espresso for 100% arabica was very acidic and not earthy at all. Will not go back until they hire proper and professional baristas with appreciation for...
