We visited for Sunday lunch. We were greeted when we first walked in and immediately seated with menus. The place was about 2/3 full. After that, it was a very awkward visit, primarily due to lack of communication. Once we were seated, it was so long before anybody came back around that we started to wonder if we were supposed to go to the counter to order as opposed to having a server. We could not get anyone's attention for quite a while, as there was simply nobody around. We finally saw a lady from another table go to the counter and ask about the order process, so then we knew to just wait. Our server came by about 10 minutes after that, took our order, then returned a few minutes later to start over fresh because it was written wrong the first time. Our food showed up pretty quick after that, though. Our daughter was very excited about her special waffle and fancy milkshake. Unfortunately, her waffle was the wrong one, but the lady who brought it was so kind about getting it corrected immediately. I normally wouldn't say anything, but my daughter was so looking forward to that specific one due to the picture on the menu. I should point out that we did not see our actual server again after our order was taken, as somebody else brought out the meal. We were finally able to flag him down quite some time later to ask for a box. He did not speak to us, bring us a bill, or mention how to pay, just dropped off the box and disappeared again. Eventually, after another long wait, we were able to flag the server down again to ask for the check. Then we are finally told that we can simply go to the counter to pay and they will have our bill ready up there. I'm not sure if there was a miscommunication and they did not have our table on their radar or what, but the unclear format combined with having no one around to communicate with was a bit frustrating and awkward. I'm not sure if we will go back again. Our food was just ok, a bit overpriced, and the entire experience is best described as...
Read moreCame for lunch with my son's and once we entered the restaurant we were not greated. Once a young man approached us, he just pointed to a booth and said "you can sit there", he didn't even walk us to the booth. Then he brought us menus and silverware. I got the impression that this is a self sit café. It took them a bit over 10 minutes to come and take our order. When the young man was taking our order, first we ordered a crape, then an omelet and the young man stays "need to confirm if we are still serving luch". Took a minute to get an answer from a lady server that went to the kitchen (am assuming) to go ask if lunch was still being served (we got there at 3:30pm, they close at 6pm) and lunch was still beingserved. He finished taking our order. All our food arrived at different times. Presentation was nice but not so much for taste. The vanilla shake had no flavor, the omelet and crape were very bland, the fries that came with the burger were extremely dry, ranchero burger was well cooked and seasoned but the panene bread was not a good idea as a bun. The pancakes that came with the omelet were good only thing is we wanted butter and could not see a server in sight to ask for some. They were not busy at all (2 tables were occupied, one left shortly after we were seated) and while we were there 2 people were seated and taken care of alot quicker than we were. When we got up to pay the girls gossiping (personal life) just looked at us finished their conversation then I was able to pay.
This is a good place just to get drinks and talk with friends (you will not be bothered at all) and take pictures to post on social media.
If people give this place 5 stars seems to me they you just there to catch up with friend/s or to post on social media or are a family member/friend of thenstaff. But for service they ...
Read moreWe visited Sugar Milk café for Sunday brunch. It was busy with a definite buzz. The decor was pretty hip and new looking. I'm having a hard time understanding the theme of the restaurant. The name sounds American but many of the offerings were Latin/mexican.
The menus need help. There were almost no descriptions on what they are offering. I don't mind asking questions but a simple ingredient list with a dish would be nice. Does it come with a side?
I asked for decaf which I did to see whether their "coffee bar" had a true barista and fresh offerings as it takes up a large area of their kitchen space. The coffee tasted instant. I looked behind the counter there was no drip machine for decaf nor was there a carafe. I didnt even see a "pour-over" setup. This confirmed that I was probably drinking instant. The waitress didn't ask if I wanted a refill either, not that I wanted more instant coffee.
I ordered the mexican skillet which was cooked properly. The eggs were good and potatoes had decent flavor. The cheese was a little lacking and there was no "mexican vibe" to the dish. It wasn't much different than a regular skillet with added chorizo. Speaking of which, their chorizo tasted very good. There was NO fresh salsa on the dish which I was counting on, nor was there any queso fresco on top. I had the choice of toast or pancakes. I chose toast. That was a mistake as I got one piece. The pancakes looked better. For a mexican skillet, I say offer some fresh corn tortillas warmed up on the side.
Overall, the food was ok. Its a little pricey for what you get. I would recommend some fresh house made salsa with your mexican offerings along with tortillas.
Please note: you do not get a check when you want to leave. You walk up and tell them your...
