I am leaving a review for Deysi’s catering side. We had them cater our daughter’s wedding the other weekend at Coppes Commons.
First, I want to say their food has always been delicious. When I have eaten at the restaurant and for the wedding, the food has always been wonderful.
While the food was great, the service keeping the food made and replenished was not good. I think they did their best but aren’t set up to do big parties for catering. We had chips/salsa/ queso for appetizers which they had a problem keeping refilled too. And a taco bar with sides of rice/beans and elote for sides. They don’t have food warmers to keep things warm so they were constantly bringing the tacos from the restaurant below (while also being open and very busy). We had 215 people and we had to wait a lot of times for food for our guests which isn’t ok. We knew a taco bar would take longer but we had no idea it would be like it was. If it is a small event, I’m sure they would do better but they just didn’t do this well for the size of party we had.
I would recommend eating at their restaurant but unless things change, I would not recommend having them cater a wedding or a large gathering unless you are fine with delays in getting food. For a wedding with a timeline, this just isn’t the best...
Read moreWe just left Daisy's tacos and unfortunately had a very bad experience with the service. When the waitress asked for our drinks I ordered a horchata my wife didn't order a drink because she drinks water only. When the waitress comes back she comes back with 2 horchatas, right away I tell her that I just asked for 1 horchata so she takes the second one back with no problem. When we are ready to pay our check she comes back with the second horchata again saying that the owner said that we had to pay for the drink that we didn't ask for or that she (the waitress ) would have to pay for it (only because she assumed that we wanted 2 drinks) I tried to explain to the owner that we didn't ask for 2 horchatas that it clearly was a misunderstanding and that I didn't think it was fair that she would make the waitress pay for it either. At the end she told the cashier. "Just charge them so they can leave. Being very rude. I mean all I was trying to explain was that 1 I didn't order 2 drinks and 2 it's not fair that you want to make the employee pay for it. They surely need more professionalism to deal with customers. This why I'm giving them 1 star in service. It might not matter but this supposed to be a "christian family"...
Read moreThe atmosphere is certainly acceptable, not truly 5 star is all. Our Server (Maria Eash) was exceptional. She joked with us a little bit, but simultaneously accurately took our order. My husband got traditional shredded beef tacos on corn tortillas. He loves cilantro, I do not. He was quite satisfied with his meal. I've had terrible taco salads, mediocre and good ones, too. This salad was THE best I've ever had. The meat and vegetables were in good proportion. While the taco was a little too brown, I thought, it made sense because the bottom of the bowl was not a soggy mess. The flavor was great, the lettuce was crisp and tasty. There was (Spanish?) rice instead of refried beans below the meat and veggies - which makes me happy as there's usually pork in the beans, which I'm allergic to. I bet the rice is also helpful in keeping the bottom of the bowl from dissolving! Worth the trip to Nappanee just for Deysi's food! (We also went to the Rentown Country Store, then to Coppas Commons for the bookstore, the antiques museum and the Hoosier...
