Now I’ve never been to a Hugh Baby’s that I didn’t love but there’s something extra special about this particular location. Maybe it’s the fact that unlike the other ones, this Hugh Baby’s is a standalone restaurant; which gives that classic old school diner feel without trying too hard. I absolutely love the energy and service from the entire staff! We walked in and were greeted with genuine enthusiasm, not that “I’m only asking because it’s required” kind of attitude. I honestly feel like if I would’ve said I’m not doing well, they would’ve asked how they could make it better. But on a serious note, I highly doubt that’s possible when you cross that threshold into Hugh’s world 😊
So let’s get into this food…now I very rarely get order remorse but my cousin ordered a chili dog that looked like something straight out of a 1990s backyard bbq fever dream. I must’ve been staring a tad too hard because giant glob of chili was just hanging on the precipice of her bun and my reaction was akin to trying to stop an inevitable head on collision.
Luckily my number was called shortly afterwards so I could prepare for my own personal bliss. Of course I had to get another “Barnyard” special (chicken sandwich w/ beef patty + bacon) Now I’ve had a barnyard from every location but this location has the recipe DOWN!! See, the Barnyard will put you in the dirt if you’re not careful. It’s a lot if you’re not used to taking on the whole farm in one go, so I’d suggest just cutting it down the middle and saving the rest for later. But I’m convinced the crew here might be part Incredible Hulk, because they smashed that patty with the a level of perfection that both retained the juiciness of the beef yet not overshadowing the chicken. Although the same amount of meat as usual, the meticulous mashing made for a slightly less intimidating meal and I finished the whole thing and didn’t feel overly stuffed afterwards…I mean I’m still awake enough to write this review so that says a lot.
The chicken was seasoned to perfection…like I could have legit just eaten the chicken alone. I mean no condiments, no bun, No Nothin’ just chicken. And I know that’s grammatically incorrect but this level of flavor kinda knocks the sense right out of you.
I hardly make it to that side of town often but please believe, I just found the perfect excuse!! Hugh Baby’s for the...
Read moreGreat food 😋. This was my second time visiting, and when I say I'll be back, that's a guarantee 💯. The first time I visited, I was disappointed ( in the drive-through). I asked for the pull pork sandwich. So I'm like asking for lean meat. The guy at the drive-through didn't understand what I was asking for. 😕🙄.. So I'm just like, just give me the mushroom Swiss 🍔 and fry. My fiance got the pull pork. I admit I was irritated pulling up to the window, so Cody (very nice guy) wanted to make sure we were good cause he could tell I was irritated. Cody confirmed my order with THE GREATEST CUSTOMER SERVICE 🙌🏾.
The food mushroom Swiss 🍔 was so damn good, I didn't like the fries but to each is own.
The second time, we went about 2 days later, and we went on the inside. The atmosphere was delightful and clean on the inside 🙌🏾🙌🏾. And guess who was at the counter?? You know my guy Cody was there. Love that guy already. Can you believe he remembered us from the drive-through, or maybe me, cause I'm so vocal ( especially when I spend this hard earned 💰 ) 😩🤦🏾♀️ So anyway, I tell him wanted to see everything on the menu and he hit the menu screen that shows everything they have (sweeeeetttt) and LOOOVVEEE IIITTTT‼️‼️ Back to my experience 🥰🥰 Cody remembered our last order, we got the 2 pull pork sandwiches with pickles and my mushroom Swiss burger 🍔. My guy remembered that's love. So we ate there. I'm from Memphis, and the pictures on the wall reminded me of home. Home of barbecue💙💙, so i tried the pull pork, didn't ask for lean meat cause the drive-through issue (dude didn't know about fat cause aint no fat ‼️ Can you believe no FAT🙌🏾🙌🏾) . It's a nice place, and Cody is the face of the establishment. The pull pork was so good, and my taste buds were in HEAVEN💙💙
Memphis people, if you're in Nashville, come see if it compares to the city. If you're not from Memphis and love barbecue, come and try it, I bet...
Read moreAlright so I hit this place up, got the cheeseburger, the chili cheese dog, the bbq sandwich, fries, and a chocolate shake.
If you're a bigger person the burger may seem small, but it's good. The burger itself you could tell had been seasoned and the comeback sauce was a pleasant addition to the burger.
The chili cheese dog was nice, I personally enjoyed it. The chili wasn't the basic bean and beef, its ground beef and I'm assuming a tomato puree. The cheese wasn't shredded, seemed like they may have used sliced American, but that's not what's important. What's important is, the cheese didn't have that cheap taste.
The bbq sandwich, I only had one problem with. I picked up a taste in the slaw that made me cringe. I felt like it had celery in it. It may not have been celery, but it had that satanic flavor that celery adds when not cooked. Aside from that the bbq sauce was also pleasant with a sweeter taste to it.
The fries are 3/8" cut shoe string in store. Seasoned with what appeared to be salt and pepper, they were good. Not ultra fresh but fries have a 5 min window, and I can understand getting warm fries coming through a drive through.
Finally the shake, it brought me back to my childhood tasting like an old school diner shake.
Overall I was more impressed here than I was at...
