Pennington Distilling Co. — Attraction in Nashville-Davidson

We came for a tasting yesterday and came back for a tour today. Jim is the absolute best, you can tell he’s very passionate and loves what he does. He is so knowledgeable on the history of Pennington and he knows his whiskey! Jim was also very personable. We’ve had nothing short of an amazing time. He really made us feel at home. He’s our new best friend in Nashville! Oh and i don’t want to forget, The whiskey tasting was AMAZING! If this isn’t on your to do list already, i highly recommend you add it! The four grain was my personal favorite, my boyfriend really favored the single barrel. We will be forever returning customers! ♥️

For whatever reason this hasn’t posted from last year, but here we are back again! Coming to see our guy Jim and taste our favorite whiskey! I can’t say enough about how great Jim is. We think the world of him! On to the whiskey! I wasn’t a Rye girl last year as i was new into whiskey, but this year i am! It’s my new favorite of the selection. While in Nashville with my husband for a conference, I got to head over to Paddington distillery for a private whiskey, blending session! Our host and guide, Kris, was excellent. He helped walk us through all the different facets to choosing three great bourbons to blend together into our own custom mix.

From helping us identify which bourbons were good bases, finishes, etc. to teaching us about the history of bourbon in the Nashville area, he taught us so much about the spirit we were working with that I cans away more knowledgeable than I was expecting.

They brought in fantastic lunch from Hattie B’s, and then took us on a great tour to explain. The process of how bourbon is actually distilled, how the barrel affects the color and flavor of the bourbon and how Nashville’s climate effects the aging process as the spirit sits in the barrel.

As a group of 6 we had a tour with Jeff, and it was very informative! Jeff is truly passionate about his job and the distillery itself. He understood the processes thoroughly, and answered every question we had.

As far as the tasting and the whiskies themselves, the tasting was good. Jeff gave us a detailed but brief overview of each option we could choose from. As a rye lover, and typically a scotch drinker, I have to say their rye was delicious, and the fact that it is 100% rye grain was unique. Though I can handle my alcohol, and I like a strong smoky whiskey served neat, in comparison Pennington whiskies tended to be a bit on the strong side and pretty astringent for me, despite the flavor being good.
