Not Spanish! My husband and I were very excited to visit and enjoy some Spanish food especially since the website said it was Madrid inspired ( one of my favorite cities in Spain). My husband lived in Spain and had the opportunity to be a chef in Spain as well. I’ve had the opportunity to visit and enjoy authentic cuisine. The waitress was nice and gave us a rundown and informed us that the croquetas today were paella croquetas….what?!?! First moment of disappointment! I first tried to order a glass of Albariño wine and we were told that they actually took it off the menu and we were offered a replacement wine. We then ordered a charcuterie board and it was highly disappointing considering we waited 20 minutes and there was just 1 other table aside from us. It was also $32!!! It had 2 meats, 3 cheeses, some crackers, some little toast, 2 olives cut in halves, spread, pickled vegetables, and walnuts. It was not at all $32 worth. Barcelona- chain restaurant has way more for a cheaper price. We then ordered the lamb dish. The lamb was good but I’ve never seen naan served in Spain. The carrots with harissa was a purée and there was literally less than a tablespoon on the rim of the dish. It had 3 skewers of lamb and some lettuce with some spicy peppers. While I like spicy, Spanish food isn’t spicy. That dish was $23. While all of this is going on, back of the house staff is in the front of the house chatting away. Whom I assume is the chef and a possible sous chef were playing a game while we were waiting on our charcuterie board. There was also a random guy who kept looking out through the kitchen window and then the kitchen door and it was very creepy. At the end of our dinner the chef had a meeting with the front of the house by our table. The music was very loud and again not at all Spanish. Our tab was $140…that’s food and 2 glasses of wine each. Way over priced for the quality and quantity of food. Shame on you all for selling this as Spanish food. Highly disappointed as someone who is cultured and knows what Spanish...
Read moreWe drove from Indianapolis to Nashville to have Valentine's Day dinner at Lola. It was absolutely flawless. I'm a chef and will admit I'm hard to please. When I go out and pay for a meal, there's a level of expertise I expect to be delivered. Lola delivered. Service was perfect, food was flawless, even the management squeezing us in when Open Table has a glitch anf dropped our reservation just two days before V Day. Thank you so much! We will add this to our list of approved places when we visit! I wish I had pictures! We committed to no phones for our date night. We shared the pan tumaca as an app. Basically a way leveled up bruschetta. Perfect balance of bread and lots of tomato and garlic. Then we had the acorn squash which I could eat every day until I die and never get sick of it. Omg. LOVED IT! (Only suggestion is to note on the menu that it comes with goat cheese. I don't eat goat cheese because it kills my palette. So we asked for a re-fire without, which they gladly did and it rocked!) He got the trigger fish with white beans and broth Then we shared papas bravas - crispy potatoes. So good! And I had the tuna crudo. Note that this is a petite dish intended to be a tapas not an entree but I love crudo and knew what to expect when getting it which is why I ordered the acorn squash and papas ;) I didn't want a large meal. Anyway, this was perfect in every way! So yum! Light and refreshing and a perfect finish to our dinner. We wrapped up the night with a flourless chocolate cake - more like a torte, if you've never had one. This was a Valentine's Day special and was decadent and balanced between the slight bitterness of the cacao and subtle sweetness and just the right amount of richness to be satisfied all the way around without feeling heavy after. Please please please put the grilled octopus back on the menu! It's one of my favorite things and I'd love to try your version. Thank you...
